A few words from a former FE dev - now it all makes sense

From me? Absolutely! They made it seem like 5 civs in the area were coming and it was only 2

They are the ones making decisions in the end. One right doesn’t cancel a wrong. And two wrongs don’t make a right.

Why not?
You seem to forget we have the divine right to buy what we like and criticize what we don’t like.

First of all, they haven’t listened.

Creating a problem that never existed is already the manifestation of incompetence. It’s totally on them if there is never a solution that satisfies everyone, because they created the situation themselves.

ā€œBut they said that out of total innocence and not hinting anything! It’s your fault expecting too much!ā€

To be fair, scrapping early concepts and reusing assets is common. So that may not be what they were trying to hint.

But anyway it definitely did NOT sound like what was delivered by 3K. That’s what we can know for sure

I was more suggesting that these scrapped assets were likely not scrapped all the way back when they made the roadmap some time beforehand.

Well since DoI, nothing has been delivered like it.

And funnily, if 3K was what they were referring to with that bit of text in the roadmap…then it was a split!

I highly doubt 3k was planned that long ago,if they did there was ample time to do voices for the new civis.

I think it’s highly likely that the real east Asian DLC was planned and some C-something interfered early or mid development

The general rule among gaming companies:

When people are angry they show it with verbal or written communication. When people are happy, they show it with their wallet.

In other words, no need to proclaim devs heroes if they do a good job. The message will come across with just people buying what they enjoy.

I had said it even before the release of 3K that something was off since RoR. Always imagined something like this from the moment they suddenly made Siege Engineers benefit ships.

Honestly, I don’t blame FE here at all. (In the end, to me, the people in charge are ALWAYS to blame when failure happens. (Microsoft in this case.) I know this sounds unfair but, in the end, there is usually some truth in it. It usually always is their fault in some aspect. Primarily Money/Greed/Power.)

Now, I know devs could be blamed too but, considering all the stories I have heard about the gaming industry, it sounds true/factual to me. They try to push/blame them with the failure or consumers not buying the game. When in fact, it’s their idiotic ideas on how to make maximum profit vs actually making a fun game/launching in it’s best version.) They never seem to learn from their mistakes. Like, ever… (With a few exceptions of course.) Although, in the end, it’s still a ā€œteam effortā€. So, they do deserve some of the backlash too unfortunately…

Then again, our ā€œstandardsā€ has also been raised as well as consumers too. More realistic graphics and less bugs at launch is expected but, that is usually not likely unless the people in charge actually take the time to DEBUG the damn game before releasing it. (most have not learned this lesson.)

Anyway, I am ranting on here… But my point is, there is no love/care in the creative process anymore. It’s all about money/power. This is why I don’t really like to create things anymore. It’s no longer ā€˜fun’. It’s just spit out random garbage and see what makes the most profit… edit: (This is understandable as to why they left/disbanded because of this reason altogether.)

edit: But more on topic about SWBG, honestly, I never played it back in the day. I would still like to see it someday but, if Disney is not going to do anything about it, then, that is their loss.

edit: Although, considering what I said above, I expect it to be a complete flop or just be ā€œokayā€. (Maybe awesome if they actually learn their lesson but, I doubt it.)

There might have been some valid reasons during development that led them to accept abandoning the civ concept of the Turkomans. Just randomly speculating — maybe they didn’t want the Persians to focus on the Sassanids, or maybe they didn’t want the Turks to focus on the Ottomans.

If the Persians were to be split, persaonally I would prefer split them into Eastern and Western Iranian peoples. The western group would be the familiar Persians, living on the Iranian Plateau. The eastern group would center around the oasis city-states of Transoxiana, such as the Sogdians.

It’s also on Steam. That’s how I ended up buying it.

Im already working on one right now. Made a lot of progress but not sure how to get more experience ppl tho

That’s cool! Sadly, I can’t really help you with actual game development, because I don’t know anything about it. If your game is based on history, though, I’d love to help with research, because that’s something I do a whole lot of. I need money, though, so I won’t do it for free.

Yes, but nowadays its part of GOG Preservation Program, so their team will work to be sure it will always work on newer OS
Steam dont really do any hard lifting in this regard

starting with some pseudo-fictional Pirate RPG game with RTS elements at core. Want to feature something like units on ship. Plan is to make AOE2 but on gunpowder era. Isometric theme 1450 to 1850. Im just solo rn. So its a luxury to make serious big RTS as one man show.

Id be okay with this even though in a sense Sogdians would be worth being its own civ alongside Persia, possibly the one civ that just crosses more regional units except for like the Alans who instead of Elephants would fit with Dromons. Both would be Savar recipient viable

Yeah I agree, I just think you and tyranno are worlds apart in terms of education and ways to ask for things and give some constructive criticism, both of you know how to give a constructive criticism without bashing and insulting people. Some people here are really losing their minds, they should learn from both of you

Not sure whether the Sogdian civ should have access to the Savar. As far as I know, the Savar were very specific to the Sasanian Empire, and the Sogdian city-states didn’t have it. I don’t even think the civ would have the Knight line alongside the Steppe Lancer.

As for the elephants, I’m quite certain that the Sogdians shouldn’t have access to them. They probably didn’t ever use them in battle. Even the elephants used by the ancient Persians were actually imported from India rather than bred locally, and the Transoxiana region would be even less likely to have them.

I have a few ideas for this civ:

  • Allow the Sogdian Cataphract currently available in the Editor to be enabled in the Stable, as if it’s a mounted version of the Huskarl, good vs archers but weak vs melee. For balance, it might require a UT to unlock.
  • As for the Castle UU, a horse archer UU based on the Cakar that excels against cavalry units could be very interesting. For balance, it might have strong base stats but not benefit from any upgrades except its own Elite upgrade, making it less effective against spearmen.
  • Then, give their HCA a bonus against spearmen—like lacking Ring Archer Armor but having Parthian Tactics double the effect. This way, they would create a sort of rock-paper-scissors mechanic.

I’d really love to see the Sogdians and Gokturks form a Central Asia-themed DLC, though from the current perspective, it’s hard to imagine that the devs would be interested in this kind of DLC. For that region, it seems more possible that they would rather turn the Chagatai Khanate, Il-Khanate, Ogedei Khanate, and even the Yuan into civs, and then represent the post-Mongol era alongside the Tatars, who represent the Golden Horde.
