A Norse villager is BUILDING?

I was watching the Xbox games Showcase that was looking for some new detail, and I came across the following scene

At a certain point in the clip that shows the Nordic base being attacked, you can see this moment in which the villager puts a building on the ground and begins to build.

Could it be just an “oversight” on the part of the team that hasn’t yet completed the final adjustments to the game, or will the Norse villagers be able to build things other than farms?

I didn’t notice that. I don’t really like it to be honest. At first I thought “Oh maybe it’s a Freyr bonus?” but then I saw the Odin statue…

I hope norse villagers won’t be able to build in the final game.

Ofc i am personally open to it as long as:

  • favour gathering will get a (minor?) rework

  • mercenaries of Egypt are getting either deleted or nerfed

  • militia of Poseidon are getting either deleted or nerfed

  • Norse buildings get slightly stronger

At 44:42-44:43 the Norse Town Center has 2160HP (probably after an upgrade) and 90% pierce armor.

In the trailer you can also see egyptian villagers praying, these are either placeholders or oversights, don’t worry.

Those are promotional scenes, the video above shows normal gameplay.

Promotional video or gameplay makes little to no difference in this case, they are not going to change a core mechanic anyway.

I also think this is a difference. They made the Egypt villagers pray to the Egypt titan cause of “cinematic vibe” cause it looks cool.
The other footage seems more “hey by the way” and not a focus to show something flashy. So it potentially could be a change.

But there also is the option they keep the old “core” mechanic(a) just wait and be open minded as possible I guess

Maybe they are allowed to build a few economic buildings like houses.
They were already allowed to build farms.

Which would be really bad because building houses with military is one of the norse weaknesses, removing a civ weakness is always bad idea (we have already had proof of this multiple times).

That’s why I’m saying they they are not going to touch this particular mechanic.

I’m not in favour of this change but why should they go out of their way to fake a gameplay screenshot to show a Norse villager build something?

The praying Egyptian villagers make sense since they make the Titan look more epic in the promotional image.

But why fake a Norse villager building a house???

The only way I would be ok with this is if they introduce the livestock pen to AOM. Norse villagers could only build farms and pens. This would require some rebalances of courses, but devs already seem to have taken this route…

Maybe they can build the ox cart like Georgians/Armenians in aoe2?

If you watch the clip you can see a villager spawn at the TC and then walk a little before he starts building a building.
There are multiple houses at the same distance to the TC next to the new building so it is very likely that this villager is building a house.

damn thats cringe… why do they have to change norse like that… wtf

Here’s hoping it was just either a promotional thing OR Norse villagers can now build only houses and /or economic buildings. If you watch the clip, a little further down you see what look like Hersirs or other soldiers building a Titan gate. So the soldiers do retain a building function, it might be that the load has been spread a little to the villagers for houses to perhaps help the Norse in the early game when it comes to the decision of scout or build with your starting Ulfsark

Unlikely…the Norse have the Ox Cart unit already…

Euh, I don’t like that. That’s going to mess with the balance and the identity of the Civ. Just keep it to farms and MAYBE houses, but nothing else. I wonder what other things we have missed in the promotional videos we’ve been given?

You can already do both by simply making a second ulfsark on some maps where making the 2nd ulfsark is almost mandatory regardless, other than that having to decide when to scout or build house with your starting ulfsark doesn’t seem an insurmountable task to me.

Allowing norse villagers to build houses, thus removing a core identity/weakness (as they have already tried to do with the uninspired and unbalanced EE units), would be so asinine…

Mate, I agree. I just want this to be the AOM we all know and ##### ### sadly I think there’s gonna be some changes, so I’m just hypothesising the best case scenarios.

It’s annoying cos as a player of AOM since 2002, o feel a lot of peeps who got into it later want those later features of other games. I just hope AOMR maintains the core mechanics and fundamental ethos of what made the original so great.
