A request to the devs: Please switch the Persians to the Central Asian architecture before release of their rework

It is a little sad that a change with large community support can get simply ignored. It seems like you have to have a pro player or large youtuber/streamer on board for them to pay attention who by and large will only be interested in competitive/gameplay changes.

I live in Somalia, the traditional architecture here fits quite well with the Ethiopian influences of the African set. The Arabic/Ottoman influence on the architecture is relatively recent. I think a shared set with Swahili could also work.

FWIW, the Ethiopians and Malians sharing an architecture set that combines elements of both civilizations isn’t ideal in my opinion. Splitting the African architecture set into West and Northeast African sets would be a good thing to do sometime in the future.

Funnily we do have some support in this area. OrnlutheWolf would like them to switch as well, chatted to him a little about it, and he has mentioned it in several videos.

But yeah, this is disappointing, but not the final word on this. There were no changes between the PUP and release, for balance or otherwise. So if we can keep making our case, perhaps the first update afterwards (that will likely focus on the Georgians, Armenians and Persians) might fix this.

Meanwhile, I will make some more detailed images showing a comparison between Early Middle Ages Persian buildings and the Feudal Central Asian set. In case it wasn’t clear that they have always had these domed buildings, and it’s not just a Timurid-era thing.

As an aside, I think the architecture set we’re currently calling “Middle Eastern” could use some adjustments itself. For example, the roof tiles you see on the buildings starting in the Castle Age look Mediterranean-influenced to me. That might be fine for the Turks since you do see that style of roof in Turkish cities like Istanbul, but I normally associate Arabian architecture with flat roofs like those of the Feudal Age set. So I would like to see those flat roofs persist into the Castle and Iron Age at least for Saracens.

It’s been a while since I played regularly as I used to since DE came out. When I saw that my beloved persians were having a rework I quickly thought of a change in their architecture, I was excited to see this change but sadly there was no change.

I think this aspect is easy to fix but somehow there is no word about it. Is there something impeding this change?

I would like to know.

We would all like to know.
Over 90% of the community wants this change.
They should at least make a statement about why they don’t want to change it.
It’s literally a change that takes seconds to implement.

For some reason, I have the feeling the devs have no intention to change any civ’s architecture set…

Do they not have people reading the forums to see player feedback?

90% that voted wants this change. Not 90% of the whole community because it’s half of the whole community that wants this and half of it that doesn’t. Also, changing the Persians building set to the Central Asian one would also mean the change in their ship set (though the CA and ME ship sets are exactly the same but have different pics on their rig) because the rig on the CA ship has the Wind Horse, which is a symbol coming from Mongolic culture. Honestly, the ME set design could always be updated to have some more Persian influence and the developers should create a mod for those who wish to play as the Persians with the CA set or give people, the ability to switch architecture in the menu just so long as the architecture choice is accurate for a specific civ (i.e., a Native American civ can’t be using a European building set).

Not necessarily. The Bengalis and Dravidians have the SEA sails, while the Gurjaras and Hindustanis have the ME sails.

Yeah you single-handedly represent 50% of the community, don’t you?

OH MY GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

By the time this thread was started the devs were probably already focusing on final checks, tweaks, and fixes on the DLC for release; the architecture change probably wouldn’t have come out until the next patch either way.

Well that’s because the South Asian building set never had its unique ship set.

By the time this thread was started the devs were probably already focusing on final checks, tweaks, and fixes on the DLC for release; the architecture change probably wouldn’t have come out until the next patch either way.

The topic itself has come up several times since Definitive Edition released alongside the other suggestion to change Bohemians to Central European rather than Eastern. So it was hoped they might have seen one of the many threads that have appeared on here, reddit or steam forums in all that time and given it some consideration.

When they revealed Byzantines had changed from the Middle Eastern set to the Mediterranian one there was some expectation they might be open to changing others.

My hope was that they had seen the threads, but didn’t know if it was actually that popular. Whereas a rework for Persians felt a bit “safer”.

So making this thread with a poll seemed like a good way to show how strong the feeling was.

Also around the time I made it, I saw posts all over the place in various different social media’s asking for it. So it’s not just confined to here.

There’s literally a poll on the first post showing the percentage breakdown. It’s been sitting at around 87% for, 4/5% against and 6/7% don’t care either way for some time now.

I too was disappointed when I went in the Editor to check their architecture only to find it still middle eastern…

The buildings looked very cool and immersive in the campaign screenshots

Need do it now, need true architecture of a civ, before Viet get this trouble too -_-

24, I don’t even want to play the Persian campaign before they correct the architecture set! Immersion destroyed.
