Apparently DE deleted 2 campaign from HD Edition and replaced them (Alaric and one American campaign). I assume other scenarios have changes too. In Age of Empires 1 roughtly third of scenarios are new. I think all the original content should work just fine with DE, but instead of having people look for it why not leave as a part of the game and call it… let’s say Deleted Scenes or something?

It would be good to have access to older campaigns in DE. Maybe as official mods?
