Thats the thing people don’t get. They could’ve zerged those spaniards to death no matter their equipment. But the europeans never fought a unified nation, but coalitions which hated or took advantage of each other as much as the new guys…I imagine it not too far off compared to modern day middle eastern conflicts
Would be nice to have that lack of technology be translated into more mass-infantry and hit&run gameplay. Utilizing ambushes and the environment more, like some people here already suggested… or go full cliché and allow me to bonk enemy villagers and carry them home as human sacrifices x]
Natives should be able to see better through stealth forests, plant their own and build unique versions of outposts called hunting platforms that are built on top of trees.
While this concept of a civ is fun to talk about.
The micro required is probably beyond 90% of players xD
And yeah, everyone is an Aztec stealthy boi now with the new stealth tree fog.
But who knows, maybe a mod where one of the neutral buildings can produce such fast poison shooter bamboo undie bois for the forest.
Eagle and Jaguar warriors were all but stealthy that’s for sure, the contrary is true as their emphasis was to terrify their opponents by looking as imposing and loud as possible.
As a Central American which would feel identified by having Aztecs, Mayans, Incas and Native Americans in general, I’m fine with AoE IV never having them. I actually never play those civs in AoE II because after, say, Feudal Age they feel too removed from history. You can say all you want about AoE not being strictly historical games either, but I can just as well go and play StarCraft. The historical setting does play a big part.
Mesoamerican “castles” were never really arrow-shooting military buildings, it’s super weird to see an Aztec Imperial Halberdier in full uniform or a Jaguar Warrior with a club having the slightest chance against a Paladin. It just doesn’t work. I commend the devs for hypothesizing some sort of “what if” scenario for those civs in previous AoEs, but the effort should be put into other civs/mechanics.
IMO the civs can be in the game but only playable in specific campaigns. If they get added as free or paid DLCs that’s fine too as I can simply ignore/not buy them. The only downside is that surely they would be sold alongside Spain.
