After the recent upgrade, I’m unable to open the program.
Does anyone else have the same issue?
Try to open it from the steammaps directory (can’t remember exactly but it’s in programs(x86)/steam/steammaps…). I couldn’t open it from desktop/start but it worked there.
Didn’t work unfortunately. 
I just used it yesterday, at which step does it fail for you / how exactly does it fail?
Are the proper paths selected?

It was working perfectly before the update.
Is there any way to do basic editing? I’d just like to change a few values for my mod.
Working fine here, if you’re not already, try adding key-value-modded-strings-utf8.txt from EN files for the Language x1 location, and the key-value-paphos-strings-utf8.txt from EN files for the Language p1 location if you own Battle for Greece.
Those are the only changes I made after using the default loading settings for DE default loading path and my AGE works perfectly since the update.
If you did not too, try running as administrator, and also running it with anti malware defender software turned off they sometime cause issues.
The source code is present in the game files under the Tools_Builds directory, but you’ll have to recompile it yourself and there I can’t help you with it.
Also try to launch the AGE exectuable via cmd.exe console with a log trail printing parameter to receive info about what is happening.

I have same problem here.
Can you run AdvancedGenieEditor3.exe within command prompt to see if it gives any logs info ?
If you can provide crash logs, I can try help reading them to find out what is happening to you.
To do so, inside the “Tools_Builds” directory inside the game folders, right mouse click on nothing, “Open with command prompt” or something ressembling that words, then “start AdvancedGenieEditor3.exe” and see if the prompt provides anything then tell us the result.

The program closes before it even opens. I checked the log, and it’s empty.
And in your process manager, anything happens ? I mean if the software isn’t starting, it’s not the same as if it crashed directly after launching.
Maybe try reinstalling age of empires 2 definitive edition with steam uninstall / install process, it will redownload the latest AGE version in the game folder.
