Advices to the card 'Advanced Artillery'

I think this card is useless for now.So I have some advices for it.

But first,I think we should change something first. We should remove the ‘send 1 Mortar’ bonus of this card first(still keep the ‘Mortar and Horse Artillery can be trained in the Fortress Age’ bonus).
And we should make Mortar no longer upgrade to the Howitzer,Mortar will upgrade to ‘Guard Mortar’ and ‘Imperial Mortar’.Howitzer will be a new unit.

So I can say my advices,we can choice one from those three, and I think those 3 advices can show European’s technological superiority in that period:

1.Make all the artillery +1 range after player send the card. When you reach age 4,it will +1 additional range. If you send this card in age 4 or 5,it will +2 range in all

2,It can make the artillery foundary build the heavy artillery from the age 4.But it will be very expensive. And you can just build 1 of them at the same time, not in a group.Just like Hausa. But the speed of produce will be faster than the factory.

3.Add a new unit ‘Howitzer’ to the player. It can built from age 4,and can upgrade to ‘Guard Howitzer’ and ‘Imperial Howitzer’.This kind of unit will have both of the features of the falconet and the Mortar. It will be stronger against infantry than Mortar but not as powerful as the falconet, and It will be stronger against building than Falnonet but not as powerful as the Mortar. It will have 30 range and cost 6 pops.It will have 3.5 speed.

  • Add range
  • Can build heavy artillery in the artillery foundery from age 4
  • Add a new unit ‘Howitzer’ from age 4

Maybe reduce the population cost of horse artillery by 1 instead. I’d rather see them ship an arsenal wagon with advanced arsenal before touching advanced artillery.

I think artillery has already too much of an impact in battles

In addition to its current effect, I think the Advanced Artillery card should make it cheaper to upgrade artillery units from the foundry, that way the card would gain value over time and not break anything. Perhaps the card could also give the mortar a higher damage multiplier against buildings, but only in the age of fortresses (shadow tec), for obvious reasons. :slightly_smiling_face:

AA is used to counter aggresive fort placers but yeah maybe let horse art and mortar upgrade age4 cheap or free could be nice but not break stuff

How about making it auto-upgrade Falconets and Mortars when you reach Industrial Age? That would make it have a similar effect to what the card used to have.

I think that improving the range would break artillery against civilizations that cannot counter them efficiently.

My proposal is the following:

  • Enable horse artillery and mortars in age 3.

  • Send an artillery foundry wagon, and also enable the grenade launcher in the arsenal (The ‘grenade launcher’ card is absorbed).

  • The artillery upgrades ‘Professional Gunners’ and ‘Trunion’ could be enabled through this card (advanced artillery), instead of the advanced arsenal.

  • To compensate, ‘Advanced Arsenal’ now sends an arsenal wagon. (No longer enables advanced artillery upgrades)

I think A new Artillery unit would help a lot to the game
Even though an all-in update/rework to artillery and siege is pretty much needed!

And isn’t that what this currently does?

I don’t really like the change to make it send a Mortar, but your first two options would not be balanced and the third is a little convoluted.

I’d prefer something a little more subtle that still makes it not a useless card after age 3.

  1. The obvious thing to do would make it discount artillery upgrades so it has some value later on. Maybe a 50% discount for age 4 (1000 resources) and 25% for age 5 (3000 resources)?

  2. I’d also extend the discount to the Artillery Foundry otherwise the opportunity cost is a bit high for actually making the units in age 3. A ~25% discount would probably be reasonable.

  3. A small buff to all artillery such as 5% faster training would also help. That would be fairly minimal for most artillery, but a pretty solid boost for Heavy Artillery because of their long train time. It would also be in line with other early unit access cards that usually grant some other small buff.

Cheaper and faster training Foundries with earlier units could make it have a niche use for age 3 with some solid benefits in later ages.

Absolutely cannot be an artillery range increase.
