I think there was another language family that people suggested constantly, I can’t remember what it was right now. Maybe it really was just the Bantus.
The Shona are the people of the region Zimbawe, that were known to had a great Kingdom during the Middle Ages, Bantu is a big language family that covers most of Southern Africa Region

It’s more just a name people can recognize. It’s why the civ is called Koreans now instead of the Joseon or the Franks instead of the Merovingians or the Japanese instead of the Heian. Or Ethiopians instead of Axumites… granted this one I’m bitter about but Zimbabwe is just a more recognizable name
