Africa should get more

For sure! Not much but i’d like to see one DLC with Mississippians, Algonquin OR Iroquois (I prefer Algonquin) and Thule OR Inuit (I’d probably prefer Thule) I think those three give good umbrellas that together cover most of eastern & central US and Canada (I’d throw Pueblo in too but from what i’ve heard the modern decendents of the Pueblo don’t want their ancestors portrayed in video games so i’d prefer to respect that) EDIT: Almost forgot i’d love to see a Taino civ, and they’d probably slot in here too

Ok found it, here’s my idea for handling Africa across 3 DLCs. Though I did make an abbreviated 2-DLC version as well:

W. Africa DLC: Kanembu, Hausa, and one of Ghanaians or Songhai (I probably prefer Songhai)

EDIT As I look into this Hausa are on the edge of the timeline but I think might be a bit too late, i’d probably slot Andalusians in the W. Africa DLC instead Perhaps under the Moors name…?

E. Africa DLC: Somalis, Nubians, Swahili, new E. African architecture that Ethiopians get

S. Africa DLC: Kongolese, Zimbabwe, Beninese, new S. African architecture set

The two DLC version leaves the E. Africa DLC in tact but makes the second DLC Kanembu, Hausa, and Kongolese with a new S. African architecture. It’s noticeably more clunky which is why I prefer the 3-DLC outline. I’d also love to see Andalusians slotted in with the W. Africa DLC somehow (They do also represent Moors, and i’d rather Andalusia be added this way than a whole Iberian DLC that I think is surplus to requirements. I could also see Andalusia included in a Middle East DLC though as a Saracens Split)

It’s fun looking through this old document I have…though kinda awkward that the only S. American civ I listed was Chimu, given Last Chieftains lol

While they might share architecture the Swahili would likely have a very southern African military void of horse and camel

Yeah I largely placed Swahili in the E. Africa DLC because of the architecture set, as well as their extensive contact with the Arab world

How they will be different from Berbers?

I would like a DLC focus on Africa, I think Africa deserves more than a 3 civs DLC.

But, each DLC has to have a story to tell. I think the story, or stories, is the main drive behind each DLC and the reason to develop it. I think the following DLCs will be the ones with epic, grand camping tales.

Berbers are moreso the African side while the Andalusians will have more Euro influence from being in Spain. (Tbh I prefer the Andalusians name over Moors)

For what its worth i’m not a full-on civ designer with a whole list of bonuses and UUs and such, I just think of general ideas to fill civ gaps and how they could fit together into DLC packages mainly

Bonuses are not the main part in terms of representation. What civ gaps do you think Moors/Andalusians will fill that Berbers or Spanish can’t?

IIRC their main objection was to the plan to portray them as an umbrella Pueblo civ in Civilization 5. If the civ is based on a specific nation or their ancestors, like the Hohokam, perhaps they’ll be okay with that.

Andalusians did view themselves as different from Berbers, the Almoravid and Almohad rule (both Berber regimes from Morocco) there was unpopular for that reason. It’s also why I wouldn’t make an umbrella “Moor” civ for Al-Andalus and Morocco – they might have been equated by Christian Spaniards to the north, but it wasn’t the case.

Moors should be something inbetween spanish and berbers so maybe the first civi with mounted xbows and camels?

Yes, they are very good options like Civs…

Yes, maybe they will at some point…

Yes, that could be it…

Yes, perhaps they could do it in an Iberian DLC…

@Estevao9543 do you think Yemenis could share an architecture style with either Somalis or Ethiopians?

Edit: Somalis I guess might fit better with Swahilis with the white coral architecture

Well, although all the images of Somali architecture I’ve seen show white, likely whitewashed, buildings, and these beautiful decorations in the photo are truly unique to Yemen, it would actually be feasible to share the arch set with Somalis; their architecture also shares Islamic characteristics like arches, minarets and domes, as well as these “horns” (merlons?) on the terrace corners and the consistently square shape. In fact, even the Nubians and Kanuri have similar architecture, probably due to the arid climate.

However, it would look kinda odd with the Ethiopians, as they make extensive use of wood (for beams and the “monkey heads” used to reinforce the structure), dark earth, and yellowish stone blocks; they did not have those horns at the corners of the structures, and their windows featured relief decoration. Furthermore, the common buildings like houses, often round, feature thatched roofs due to the cold, humid climate. Southern Arabian architecture influenced the pre-Aksumite one, yet, likely due to isolation in a mountainous region, the Ethiopian style became truly unique in the world.

You can get an idea from the images below. I included most of the features of each architecture, but not all of them, so as not to make it too cluttered. In my Google Photos albums, there are some images of the actual architecture to aid understanding.

I am an amateur artist, as some of you may already know, and I used AI in these images solely to illustrate textures, an area where I am unfortunately limited. I understand and agree with the prevailing view on this forum regarding AI usage. However, in this specific instance, the images are based on concepts I had already created (they are in my albums), and rest assure that I do not intend to create an entire set using AI. I ask for your understanding.
