Age of Empires II Chronicles: Napoleon Wars

What would you think if the content of Age of Empires III were released as DLC for Age of Empires II?

Below a list of the new features that this new DLC could bring to Age of Empires II Definitive Edition:

1 - Campaigns in the colonial period (1550-1850) but with an Age of Empires II theme, including the founding of the 13 North American colonies, the Hundred Years’ War in Europe and the Napoleonic Wars, historical battles would also be included

2 - New regional units for the European civilizations: Arquebusier, Musketeer, Hussar, Dragón, Tercios, Skirmisher, and others units, with their respective upgrades to elite units.

3 - Mercenary camps.

4 - The Wonder system would be removed and replaced with the creation of factories in the Imperial Age. Limit of one per civilization, each would have access to free resources just like in AOE III

5 - Metropolis cards could be simplified into unique technologies for each civilization with unique bonuses, as was done in the Chronicles: Battles for Greece DLC.

6 - Updated siege weapons, adding European cannons for the first time, which would be housed in a new building called the Artillery Foundry.

7 - Docks: Updated ships with naval artillery and formations is colonial style

8 - Age progression system similar to Age of Empires III with two colonial politician options, each with different bonuses

9 - American maps with flora and fauna from each region, Native alliances through trading posts with factions already established in Age of Empires II such as the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi. Two new Native subfactions would be added for the North American maps: the Iroquois Confederacy and the Cheyenne. All these sub-factions would have two units and some unique technologies, as well as special bonuses depending on the Native subfaction alliance

10 - Royal houses for Native trading posts on the European maps, using the same mechanics as in point number 9.

11 - A revolution system similar to the Flemish Revolution technology of the Burgundian. Each European civilization in the new DLC would have its own revolution technology with unique additions, such as new units or technologies, for greater replayability. The number of revolutions would be reduced to about 10. Maximum

12 - Combat formations for units based on the Colonial Wars and the Napoleonic Wars

13 - The settlers automatically collect resources, just like in Age of Empires III, without needing to deposit them in any building.

14 - The first DLC could add civilizations like England, France, Spain, Germany, and Portugal, and a second DLC could add the Ottomans, Russians, Swedes, Poles, and Danes. Civilizations like Italy, Venice, Holland, and Switzerland could be added as royal houses on European maps.

“There are men who just want to watch the world burn,” and I am one of them. I think it’s an excellent idea; I want to see how the AOEII community would take it. :smiling_face_with_horns:

PD: I hate the new emojis and the new page writing interface.

The idea itself isn’t so far-fetched if we consider that several elements from Age of Empires III have already been added to other titles in the franchise and which have been very well received by the community, and with the arrival of the new expansion for Age of Empires II: The Last Chieftains, anything is possible

perhaps in the not too distant future :frowning_face_with_open_mouth:

de hecho yo pienso lo mismo, seria genial ver un Age of Empires V basado en la época colonial o en las guerras napoleónicas, seria lo mejor que le podría pasar al titulo y a la franquicia como tal, de esta manera podrían lanzar un parche de despedida para AOE III y así podrían empezar a enfocarse únicamente en AOE V, lo mejor seria que ahora si todas las campañas serian históricamente correctas y todo estaría mejor ejecutado, ojala este año los desarrolladores nos sorprendan

According to my observation of Age of Empires II, the engine of this game is OK when simulating the battle of cold weapons, but the simulation of hot weapons, whether it is the trajectory of artillery and musket, as well as the effect of killing, gunpowder graphics, I think it may be very bad.

I just wish AoE2 and AoE3 could coexist with both getting new content, is that really too much too ask?

Feels like a low tier ragebait topic out of envy towards AoE2DE just because they keep getting DLCs.

I wanted AoE3DE to get DLCs, especially having the Baltic DLC released and then getting content for other continents…But we know that World’s Edge doesn’t care by just cancelling the DLC after weird desicions.

As @RatcicleFan said, both can have new content without having to shit on each other out of hatred and jealousy.

I’m not saying it’s crazy, quite the opposite, I consider it a possibility. In any case, I think the reaction from the Age of Empires II community is going to be violent and very negative, both for the Age of Empires III community and for the developers.

Ugggh, no thank you. Napoleonic content belongs in AOE3. AOE2 represents gunpowder weaponry rather poorly.

I find this whole thread of jealousy over AoE2DE getting a DLC with civs that fit AoE3DE aswell pathetic, as it doesn’t help anyone and causes the AoE3 community look bad.

We shouldn’t behave like some of the AoE2 elitists that dump on AoE3 when our community has its own quality and not just scout cav and crossbows meta, we’re unique enough with our asymmetry. Chronicles doesn’t need to move AoE3 players into AoE2 because of the terrible actions by the higher ups.

It’s trying too hard to bend an engine that’s not designed for these kinds of things to simulate a game that already exists.

Like if you wanna port AoE3 somewhere use Age of Mythology.

I understand all the forum members, and like you, I also want to see a new update for Age of Empires III. I hope the developers can release a patch with fixes in the coming months. I feel it’s the least they can do after all the bad decisions they’ve made with the game since 2024. We fans deserve an apology in the form of a patch so we can regain the company’s trust once again.

And I’m going to feel bad, but oh well, I’ve already resigned myself to the fact that if they port AoE 3 to 2, I’ll have to accept it and let AoE 2 devour the original trilogy.

The Hundred Years’ War is already in Age of Empires 2 and complete in Age of Empires 4… in any case, wouldn’t it be the Thirty Years’ War?

I don’t think they should add them at all; it would be very controversial within the AoE 2 community, even if it were an “AoE3 Chronicles mode”…

Yes, maybe, but wouldn’t it be better if they just made them mainline civs and that’s it like the The Next Chapter mod from 2HD?…

Yes, for me this DLC is a prelude to seeing if they can somehow include AoE 3 in AoE 2…

Perhaps 2030, for the 25th anniversary of AoE 3 and the 20th of SC2…

Yes, but it depends… SWGB uses the same engine and uses a lot of laser weapons and handles it well… maybe it would be like playing AoE 2 Imperial Age with only gunpowder units…

Yes, but you know this is about money and Microsoft goes where the money is… if a game sells and a lot of people play it, there’s DLC… otherwise, there isn’t (not to mention that the AoE 3 devs moved on to Retold and AoE 4 and won’t be coming back since they’ll only be working on those games and 2DE)…

Yes, it would actually be negative for both sides… AoE 2 players would complain that they’re including AoE 3 within AoE 2 instead of adding medieval content, and AoE 3 players would complain that they’ve been turned into DLC for AoE 2…

True, but AoM has fewer players than AoE 3…it was more profitable for them to do it the other way around…use AoE 3 and include AoM as an AoE 3 version of Chronicles (the maps wouldn’t have minor civs, but the pantheons could benefit from AoE 3’s decks and home city)…

Yes, that would be perfect…

Whilst a DLC spinoff thing for AOE2 which adds the AOE3 time frame of 1500s-1800s would be interesting, it seems odd to tie it around a very specific point in time, in the 19th century.
