Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition DLC News

This is the attitude that will keep the game alive more than anything else.

We donā€™t know what happened internally.
Maybe it was Forgotten Empires that didnā€™t want to go back to working at AoE3DE after working on AoMR because it would mean going back to an older version of the Engine. The same reason why they stopped updating AoE1DE after AoE2DE came out.

There is a small chance that they cut AoE3DE in favour of AoE5. They apparently started hiring Unreal Engine 5 devs which would be a strong hint towards a new AoE game that is not on mobile (The Unity Engine still dominates the mobile market).
Thought that might me many years in the future. AoE4 had many years between announcement, first trailer and then release and AoE5 isnā€™t even announced yet.

Considering tilanus lead dev got hired because he made mods for aoe3, he continued to engage in community, and he seemed quite excited to take a 2nd stab at poland and denmark (he made Napolenic era mod btw) i highly doubt he was done with aoe3.

Rememeber this guy did this for fun for years and already had a template. And Considering he couldnā€™t even push patches out for his content, i highly doubt FE was the reason this dlc and all support got shuttered

I know there were/are people that are passionate about AoE3 in Forgotten Empires but are they the majority?
Maybe they did an internal vote or something like that.

Just saying that itā€™s easy to blame Worlds Edge when none of us have an insights into how they really operate.

I mean youā€™re not wrong ita justā€¦
I made a post elsewhere of just how Worlds Edge treats us. So while maybe FE made the call, we know WE never gave much care if at all for aoe3. Can only conclude stuff given the available evidence

1000% This! Let FE loose! Let them fully take over. Let a company that actually cares about the game and the fans manage the game.

They wouldnā€™t even need to set aside devs specifically for 3DE, just let FE internally create a team who manages 3DE on the side. Let devs help on 3DE when theyā€™re bored with Retold.

It wouldnā€™t take much, and itā€™d allow 3DE to continue without the obvious obstruction of WE.

they wonā€™t, wait till next year. They suffocate everything after milking players to buy things.

For what itā€™s worth, Dansil and I have been working on a fan patch for the game. Weā€™ve currently redesigned Sweden and Japan for 0.10. Inca and Ottoman are next up on the balance pass.

Can I redesign the Lakota for it, and eventually the Haudenosaunee?

Those are on the list, as well as the other native civs. Iā€™d definitely appreciate your input, and Iā€™d like to pay respect to the cultures depicted, though some liberties might need to be taken for the sake of game design.

Personally, Iā€™d like to remove or redesign the community plaza (except for Aztec, since their whole design revolves around it). Itā€™s a fiddly mechanic and hampers the design of each of the native civs. I think I also read from you that the community plazaā€™s current implementation is disrespectful to the respective cultures? If so, more reason to change/remove it.

Iā€™ll have to show you my designs at some point. They remove the Plaza from the Lakota/Hauds, make the Lakota/Hauds unique from the Aztec/Inca, and focus on making the two civs more interesting. The notable changes are to the economies of both - Lakota canā€™t build farms/estates without a card, Hauds rely on their modified Town Center (Longhouse) to function.

OMG, Given that Lakota will only get the farm and plantation through the card, this is the wrong balance. There should be compensation for this! For example, a lot of bison at the start, or food generate in Teepee.

Yeah seems a bit extreme having a faction where eventually you just starve to death.

Worldā€™s Edge staff was very active on Discord yesterday. They hear our complains:

KEEP PUSHING! Be visible in social media everywhere, write comments, sign petition, ask your friends to sign. There is still hope!

Right, of course, AOE3ā€™s DLC gets axed while three DLCs get major announcements a week laterā€¦

Iā€™m not questioning your understanding of their culture, but Iā€™m just curious why the Community Plaza, which strongly reflects consensus decision-making in theme, is left to the Aztecs and Inca, who are both empires, instead of the Lakota and Haudenosaunee who had consensus governments (at least relative to many empires in the game).

If the mechanic is hated rather than the theme, then replacing the mechanic is possible, but it still has to fit the characteristic of providing an advantage that is low-barrier to access early on but relatively uneconomical later on (but it can still have a better performance in late games than the current Community Plaza).

This is a very weird design. I mean, you are forcing players to put this card in the deck, otherwise this civ will have no late games at all. Given that you had argued strongly that this civ should have no access to agriculture at all, this seems like a huge concession on your part, but perhaps it is better to be a tech than a card.

Iā€™m curious how youā€™d change Haudsā€™ houses. From your description, even if you separate the Lakota and them from the Aztecs and Inca as their own factions, there is still such a huge difference between the two of them as if they are different factions.

Lakota produce bison for free from Bison Pound over time. Their economy revolves around them.

iā€™m sure its just a coincidence
