Age Of Empires V

[Suggestion for Age of Empires V] – Europe at War + New First-Person View Feature

Hi AoE community! I’d like to share an idea I have for a potential Age of Empires V — one that offers a fresh experience while keeping the spirit of the series alive.

Concept Name: Age of Empires V – Europe at War

General Overview:
This new title would focus exclusively on the European Middle Ages, featuring iconic civilizations such as the Teutons, Vikings, English, French, Polish, and others. It would highlight legendary historical battles like the Battle of Grunwald, Hastings, and Tours.

Main Features:

  1. 100% European medieval setting
  • Only European civilizations, with deeper cultural, military, and technological distinctions.
  • Historically grounded campaigns with greater narrative depth.
  1. New mechanic: First, Third-person mode (campaigns and skirmishes only)
  • At any moment during gameplay, the player could switch from the traditional top-down view to a first-person perspective, controlling a selected soldier (inspired by games like Mount & Blade).
  • This would allow players to command troops, explore cities, or engage in battles from ground level.
  • Activated via a key combination and switchable at any time.
  • This feature would be limited to single-player modes (campaigns and skirmishes) to avoid affecting competitive balance.
  1. Smooth cinematic camera transitions
  • A seamless and immersive transition between strategic overview and first-person view, with full unit and camera control in both.

Why this would work:
This idea blends the classic strategic gameplay of AoE with a new layer of immersion. It lets players not only command history — but experience it from the ground. It could be a new direction for the franchise without losing its identity.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear what others think and if anyone else would enjoy a feature like this.

Do you know manor lords? It has some of the characteristics you mentioned here.

It makes zero sense to have a first person mode in a rts game other than wasting like half of the budget.

The models aren’t high rez enough and usually optimized for performance and clarity in a rts so it would just look bad in first person.

Also there’s no point to limit only to europe, it doesn’t mske it better.

Age 5 could go back to Renaissance/dicovery era like age 3 but with more modern mechanics (so without the deck building and with dropoff point).

But i think they better focus on age 4 dlc for now as it’s probably too early for a new age game. Still a lot of missing civ and game modes that could be added.

It should have also drop off resource gather type.Units should switch to meele like the aoe3 and shouldnt have snare effect like aoe3.If its going to focus on middle ages they can add those civs to aoe 4.It should be at the same age period as aoe3.

Are we thinking:

Or maybe:

I would also take a Savage: Battle for Newerth style gameplay with age of empires aesthetic.

No, please…not medieval again…it has to be colonial/early modern or modern…

Sure, I think the same… if AoE Online was and is in ancient times and AoE 4 is medieval, AoE 5 would have to be colonial/early modern (16th-19th centuries) or modern (20th-21st centuries)…

Switching to a first person view? Gimmicky and totally against the history of the Age series. Would NOT be popular.

Age fans have a very limited range of what changes they’re willing to accept. Look how so many people didn’t like AOE3, a great and innovative game.

The closest thing currently available is photo mode. I don’t think it requires much innovation for that. I also don’t see why it’s controversial if it’s not part of the gameplay as he suggested.

AoE5 should either go way back from the Neolithic to the late Bronze Age or start in Medieval period, all the way up to Modern.

Think the formula would do well with tanks, infantries and flying units–that way we could do away with water altogether.

That depends on what you’re looking for as a player. In SC-2, there are arcade minigames, which transform the game into a 2D format, and the community lets its creativity run wild. Imagine you have a first-person minigame that involves killing zombies in a forest.

I prefer AOE5 to be set at the end of the 19th century until 1991, with the fall of the USSR and the Gulf War.

No,

This Suggestion does not ,ake semse in all sense in all points.

Perhaps You can posted in AoE2 forum

Manor Lords is (overrated) city-builder game…

He wants first-third person mode, Mount & Blade would probably fit it

you seriously want another medieval game? lol and a european exclusive one? :face_with_peeking_eye:

please try mount & blade and Manor lords like others mentioned already. you will love these games. This suggestion is not going to happen in this franchise for the next 15+ years

Part of this nonsense is asking for another medieval AoE instead of improving medieval AoE4

ΑοΕ4 is beyond saving anyway…
.. but that doesn’t mean we should have another medieval game again.
the franchise needs something fresh

Please no.
Just make AoE V on Antiquity or Early Modern Era Period (as a spiritual successor of my beloved III)
Im tired of Medieval AoE, I just get enough with II and IV

Exactly. better would be to improve IV!

I wonder if the devs are even talking about V. My guess? Probably not.

Is this real?
If so then V would be an Empire Earth All-In
