Age of Mythology Retold - General Improvements

For anyone whos interested, I’ve put together a list of potential non-balance improvements for AOMR, feel free to take a look, or comment suggestions to the word doc on changes/additions. This isn’t anything official, more a way to get our thoughts as a community as to what could be done to improve the gameplay experience without going into the weeds of balance:

This is meant to be a community driven list, not my personal list, so I will be updating it as often as reasonable non-balance suggestions are made, and I welcome any and all feedback!

Numbers 4 (ranking) and 9 ( Spectator Improvements) are the most important ones for me. Really hope they put some love to those.

Here’s hoping, the more attention it gets, the more likely it is to be noticed by the devs, and hopefully they take some inspiration from it

Wonder if it caught @v-dpino’s eye

Hopefully, I doubt they’d say anything even if it did though, here’s hoping though.

  • Allow Players in Ranked to vote for a Rematch (Suggested by NickCamp)

  • Add drawing and text boxes in-game for team communication and personal planning (Suggested by Deniho)

Having the ability to draw on the map or create arrows, etc., would make the game take on a whole new dimension. Very good idea.

“Reduce FOMO” is, no offence, a silly idea. The point of these events is to create FOMO and get people playing more right now. They could do the aoe2 method and eventually bring back another opportunity to earn them in a few years. But these are basic cosmetics; if you miss the opportunity now, it’s not going to cause any serious detriment long-term.

Stats is a great idea. You can go to aomstats.io, but it would be better if it was in game.

Rank divisions are cool. End-of-season rewards worked great for getting me to play more aoe4 multiplayer. Would be awesome to see that in aom too.

Pause should work how it does in aoe2 or aoe4. You can just…do it. Opponents can unpause (after a minimum delay), and you have a limited number of pauses per game, to prevent abuse.

Rematches don’t really seem to work very well in aoe2, but the system as it’s intended to work is great. It requires unanimity, and if everyone votes for it, you got spat out into a custom lobby. You can then change the lobby settings as desired.

All your other “lobbies” ideas are good.

I’ll add one idea of my own: persistent multiplayer groups. Like your idea of persistent non-queue lobbies, if you group up to do ranked team games with friends, you should be able to just go on straight to queuing up for the next game, instead of going back to the home page and needing to invite them to queue up again. Aoe4 has this and it is so much nicer than aoe2 and aom.

Also having millitary and economic rally points is very needed.

Allow us to use different rally points for oracles and myth units in atlanteans temples.

Allow us to shift queue commands while units are being converted to heroes as atlanteans and also allow us to shift queue commands while an ox cart is being built.

Oh, your point about rally points also reminded me: let us choose which temple & dock we want our free myth units to come out of, similar to aoe3’s ability to choose where to send shipments.

Groups makes sense, it’s like a party settings on Xbox days on halo and cod. Seems like a no brainer of a feature.

For stats, they could do like their updates and just link to the page if putting it in game is too much trouble

Even this franchise has that feature already. It’s in aoe4.

I wonder if it might be too complicated to add to a legacy game, which is why only the one built from scratch this decade has it.

Ah interesting. Yeah, lack of this and “real” ranked progress are kind of odd.

Great suggestions! I’ll add the ones about the persistent parties and rally points. Though I will note these aren’t all “my ideas”, they’re the communities, I’m just trying to act as an intermediary

Suggestions:

Option to lock camera’s maximum zoom-out and zoom-in level.

Option to toggle enemy health bars so they’re visible at all times.

Option to increase health bar size or to make them screen-based so they won’t change with zoom.

Option to add “marshing” audio to units moving. It’s 2025 and an army shouldn’t be silent.

Option to do something about the gray haze across the map. Like, tune it down.

Option to show a line that shows where unit is going when selected. The triangle line sucks.
