What Demeter has over Zeus in terms of making medusa is her better favor gathering due to her bonus and having acces to either aphrodite or hestia god power near a temple.

Zeus has less pop cost on its Myth units, so he will take longer but he will have more since his medusa will cost 1 pop less.

Apollo gives medusa more damage, which demeter doesnt have, so his medusa are also stronger.

I get your pov, when one doesnt care as much for balance and just pick whiever god is coolest its harder to see.
From a gameplay perspective and decision making both Hera and Persehpone offer the same dynamic. You get a very strong god power that enables you a big power swing and then a weaker late game than options like Heph, Osiris among others that offer a less flavorful/destructive god power but the techs and units it brings will give you a better late game.

This makes it so you can decide: Are you ahead and a quick powerspike will secure you the game? Pick X option, are you struggling and the match will draw out for long? Pick the late game option.

Currently with Hera and Persephone she looses that choice. The only thing Hera gives over persehpone is a better MU, which is more due to sirens horrible design than anything else along with harpie being weak. If thats ever fixed, Hera becomes even more redundant as an option.

People like to bring gods like Set into question saying “ohh he has horus and thot for meteor and tornado” Yes but Set is built into having a very strong pressence in the early and mid game with those gods acting as finishers and they actually force a playstyle, either going for barracks units or midgold units. Demeter is the opposite, Her early game and midgame are horrible and she gets strong later on in the game when you have the extra pop, archer techs and fully upgrades good quality greek units. Persephone and Hera dont encourage distinc gameplay in a sense. You would still make the same units regardless except for the added dynamic of the unique myth unit.

I get for some peoples all they look at is “ohh all have heph thats boring” which sure i guess its their preference, but it was a better fit into it. If persehpone was designed as Heph (better late game less spike) Then heph would be redundant and Hera/artemis would be a great choice.

So the “its more diversity” is false if you care about playing properly. If you just go for flavor you create your own diversity either way so its less of an issue imo.

but then you find out that they are sisters so it would work

i partly understand your reasoning but i partly disagree, sry.

  1. she already had good economy without Heph
  2. his tech was partly “useless” cause Demeter still has Harpie which is a myth and not a military unit
  3. i just tried monsterous rage with lykaons and the unit felt MUCH better
  4. Persephone needs serious changes (if its in a Heph direction idk but she will get changes sooner or later she has to)
  5. some techs need to get overhauled/added/changed or some of her bonuses. i like the favour gather rate bonus and the herdable spawn but maybe devs will find a way to give tech/bonuses to something else than archers (infantry? cavallry? myth units?
  6. the refreshing new path Ares/Aphrodite/Hera is just the cherry on top for me personally

Sure, you can disagree, thou i dont really see the reasons as anything meaningfull for current demeter.

Not enough to carry her through what Heph allows, specially in the current gamestate she often finds herself.

It still affected her. Besides you dont make myrmidon with zeus and zeus is still very good with heph so its not really much of a reason of why heph doesnt fit her

Sure, if you remake the god / minor god for sure you can tailor it so hera is perfect. Since thats not the current dynamic we ahve going on heph still provides what hera doesnt.

Like i said, when people just want to play something without a care if its good or not all the power to them. The preferences is simply on another dynamic thats not balance.

Ares provides 0 value to Hera. The techs dont affect each other. No ares tech affects myrmidon. The only thing you can do is have cyclops that have heras myth unit upgrades, but then again you would just make medusa. And she doesnt have Zeus stronger early game with with resto or bronce to gain that upperhand to then finish with storm.

And you loose some imo cool features, like being able to heal colusus off midas golden statues.

Artemis would be quite strong purely in the interaction of shaft of plague and fated arrow

They should make a PUP for the next month in order to get feedbacks, take their time and adjust Demeter once and for all. With some fixes the DLC would be great as that of Freyr, and would increase the success of the expansion pack.

It’s clear as day devs are working with considerable time constraints. Demeter bug where she starts with 10 favor is still not fixed, lol

Based on aomstat Hera is much more popular Mythic Age choice then Persephone in 1v1 supremacy games.

I am not surprised by this because Lightning Storm is a better God Power then Underworld Invasion and Medusa is a better myth unit then Siren especially when you get the two techs from Hera.

Anyways, I derped around in some team games with Demeter.

Ares → Hestia → Hera is actually quite strong, provided you survive the middle game, the transition between Hestia and Hera is actually your weakest point. Once you get Hera you will have to spend that lightning storm to survive into the late game. Once you get rolling with your full eco and the farm extra pop, you’re quite strong. No need to use myrmidons. Toxotoes with ares and hestia upgrades are quite nice. Hoplites are ok-ish for cannon fodder but the MU and toxotes are your real strength.

Cyclops with hera upgrades are pretty fun. and favor isn’t really a problem, which it was quite surprising.

But keep in mind this only works in casual team games.

In the recent patch they gave Demeter a ranged human fortress unit and moved the harpie to the temple. The devs listened and they answered

I hope they’ve set a limit of 10 for now to test the waters, since people wanted a spammable human unit. If this new Amazon archer turns out to be too strong, they can adjust its stats accordingly, but making it truly spammable instead of using this annoying cap should be a priority in the future.

It is too strong. It is better than a gastra in almost every way. If they remove the limit, they’d just replace toxotes And siege.

Yes but almost everyone would’ve preferred a spammable human unit instead, but at least this is still better than the Harpy.

Personally I’m not a fan of this limit for a non-hero unit, I would prefer a weaker but more spammable unit, but they are definitely testing the waters imho.

don’t gastra have a higher bonus vs buildings? i don’t even understand why amazon has a bonus vs buildings unless she throws torches like shinobi.

but e.g. chukonu is the best archer unit for chinese and still doesn’t replace the other archer units (at least as far as i know) and about siege imo she shouldn’t have bonus versus buildings. i personally would make them with solid base stats so she even is not weak versus cav (but also not strong vs cav) and reduce her range and remove her bonus vs buildings (to set her apart from gastraphets more) but i am no dev and maybe i have too wild ideas.

You are lingering on release chu ko nu. On that you had no reason to make fire archers after you unlocked them. Now you dont get them unless going for a very specific nuba dynamic or you are making archers vs cav due to macro, otherwise fire archers outscale them.

Even that being the case it kinda can balance out with them being limited

10? 10 feels odd. i would rather like to see hero units with such a limit (some have those of course i mean in general) than a military unit. and even if there has to be a limit 10 feels really small. why not at least 20. would feel at least more impactful and still not spammable.
but if they stay at a small limit of 10 and stay with the bonus dmg to buildings i really want them to have a unique animation like shinobi throwing torches at buildings instead of shooting at them.
