As an long time player of Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition and a player who has made MODs, I would like to solemnly recommend the best MOD in my heart - Age of Piracy. Among many MODs, it is the work that I play most devotedly, most amazingly, and most willing to experience repeatedly.
First of all, the city scenery is very immersive. Whether it is the port, the street, or various detailed decorations, it presents a real and fantasy atmosphere. It is not a simple stacking of models, but a perceptible and credible world created with heart. Especially in the design of ports and neutral forces, the background and interactivity of the game are greatly enriched, giving people a feeling of “this is the early modern era in my heart”.
The building model and unit design are also worthy of praise. Whether it is the architectural style or the appearance of the unit, it strictly follows the art style of the original AOE3, which is both novel and not abrupt. The matching logic between units is very reasonable, which is both tactical and fun.
The map design is a highlight. Some maps are even more complete and elaborate than the historical battle maps in the original game, and the level is really beyond the ability of ordinary enthusiasts. Not only the visual effect level, but more importantly, the interaction, resource points, and power distribution on the map all reflect the deep foundation and enthusiasm of the creator.
Of course, from the perspective of a MODDer, I am also willing to make a small suggestion: some units are a bit perfunctory in image design, and may lack some more realistic details and historical immersion. However, this will not affect my high evaluation of this MOD at all.
All in all, “Age of Pirates” is the best AOE3DE MOD I have ever played, and it can even be said to be one of the best AOE3 MODs I have ever played. If you haven’t tried it yet, I really recommend you to dive into this wonderful world for yourself. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.
Since I used Google Translate, my words may not be fully understood, I hope you can forgive me.
