All the new Flags

Yes, it’s really cool…and it makes the game much more immersive…

I think this was it. now it works. thank you

It’s hard to tell from this picture, but I think the symbol looks similar to the one on this Liao Dynasty crown:

Hopefully we won’t see Sweden and Denmark.

Vikings are already perfect to represent them and Norway. They weren’t distinct from each other in the Middle Ages and there is no justificaton for adding seperate civs for minor powers, then Teutons should be split to 5 new civs too.. We also have too many European civs compared to Asia.

I say yes to a North European architecture for Vikings and Slavs tho

Yes, the Liao dynasty was Khitan after all…

Nothing should be ruled out…the 3 DLCs (Northern Europe/Nordic, Germany and the Balkans) would be excellent additions…

It looks like something written in Arabic. I checked against every Indian flag, nothing. It’s no match for the Ghorids or Ghaznavids either. So I am honestly stumped as to where this one came from. The black background reminds me of the Delhi Sultanate, but it’s not got any writing on it.

Flag of the Trưng Vương Dynasty. Only existed between 40-43CE, so an odd choice, but this is the only Vietnamese flag that matches; white background with a golden/yellow square.

I think it’s a flame over the Ying & Yang symbol, or at least something close to it.

I can’t find a perfect match in Khitan or Tangut records. But there is an older Mongolian flag that does bear a close resemblance, used from 907 - 1125, which lines up with the Liao Dynasty. So I think this is a Liao Dynasty flag, but not the one used in China, only Mongolia. So possibly an early Liao Dynasty flag, before they were Sinicised.

It took me a while but I finaly finished a scenario with all flags in every color and the UUs next to them for identification. with the different colors, zoom and the movement of the flag, identification is much easyer. Feel free to check it out (you have to play the scenario to triger the flags)

I’d like to know what source devs used for this.

Probably a Gothic Arian Cross. They were of the Arianic Orthodox Christian branch together with the Alans.

Serpent = Quetzalcoatl (their major god) and he is usually the serpent that is depicted in the stair railing of buildings and pyramids

Maybe, maybe not, in this case – read the Significance section of that Wikipedia page.

tbh I hope all these weird rumors for a Scandinavian DLC won’t happen, such a stupid attempt to do more meaningless civ splits + rubbing in AoE3DE’s chance of adding Denmark which clearly belongs there than any AoE game…They’re really desperate for scraping the bottom of the barrel if they actually do that when other continents and regions offer better content than Vikings 2.0 and Vikings 3.0 in AoE2DE.

Cysion expressly dismissed the idea of a Viking split ; hope they won’t do it anyway

[EDIT I might not remember well]

please keep it on topic. the scandinavia DLC can be discussed in the prdictions for late 2026 DLC Topic.

if I translate Delhi Sultanate to arabic, it has some resemblense. maybe the plain black flag was to much for the Devs.

i don’t recall he explicitly dismissed anything, when he said that they may split old civs like the saracens, the viper mentioned vikings as another candidate

Oh you should have mentioned that earlier.

Actually he said that was one they were looking at.

TheViper mentioned splitting Vikings because…well. And Cyson said they are looking at them and Saracens.

It’s not rumours, it’s a hint/leak. There is a Viking flag in the architecture set flags, but no architecture set for it to go with.

Seems the Vietnamese had a lot of similar flags over the centuries. Maybe it’s a mixup or a combination of them.

Also I’m not sure if the Khmer flag should be listed as a Majapahit one, even temporarily. All I know for sure is it’s similar to some of the banners in this painting.

(Edit: And the stripes in the Khmer one make it look even more like the Majapahit flag)

Edit:

Looking through that scenario, the Viking one really is the raven banner. You can see it best in the Cyan player color.

And the Korean one seems to be the modern flag, not just the taeguk

Incidentally, the lines you see in it and in the Joseon flag are called bagua or eight trigrams.

Edit 2:
The Shu one is still a mystery

Maybe it’s the same as their UI art?

I found it

Khmer Tung" (or Dong Tung) refers to traditional, sacred Cambodian banners used in Buddhist ceremonies and festivals, often featuring intricate designs and symbols like the phoenix. These tall, decorated banners are displayed in temples (wats) and during rituals, often categorized as tung rolok (colorful) or tung kraper (white/crepe, used for funerals)
