Ally AI

Ally AI is useless. It will sit there with an army while another ally is burning and will do absolutely nothing. Seems to be an issue for years and is not getting any better. Is there a way to fix this or what difficulty to pick specifically for allies that they actually do something, like attack or come help. Really want to play this game but it’s extremely disappointing if to use ai players.

I think it might be a map bug.

Most of the times I’ve played, the AI came to help me.

However, I’ve noticed that the AI tends to get “lost” more easily on certain maps. Sometimes it might be down to the procedural generation version of that specific map (the seed).

Example 1:
There was a time when the AI got stuck with a HUGE army at an enemy base that had already been destroyed. They wouldn’t leave, no matter what.
I got curious and dragged out the battle on purpose.
The AI stayed there for 25 minutes without moving.
Then I went over with my army and destroyed some buildings belonging to the enemy force, which had already surrendered.
And mysteriously, the AI "woke up," started moving again, and began attacking across the map.

Example 2:
In one game, the AI attacked early on, but after a while, it simply cut back on army production.
It chose to just pace back and forth instead of helping me at all. It was basically stuck in limbo.
To make matters worse, it refused to attack the other civilizations.
I had to destroy four enemy civilizations while my useless ally would leave its base, wander around, and come back.

So, unfortunately, there are bugs.
It depends on the map (seed) and the situation, which might trigger a pathfinding or decision-making error.
Good luck.

Another option I’d suggest is changing your allied civilization.
It seems that the type of allied civilization you choose can make them more or less useful to you.

I recall that some civilizations made for pretty poor allies, so I’m not sure if that was just a coincidence or if there’s a correlation.

So, try running a few tests.
Good luck.

Ai allies at certain difficulty can single handedly win for the team. But also idk if at certain difficulty they get like a bonus or something to gather rates because they just barely touch their resources then age up

At difficulty levels above “Hardest,” the AI receives extra gathering bonuses, allowing it to build armies more easily.

The higher the difficulty level above “Hardest,” the greater this extra gathering bonus becomes.

If you do not want the AI to have extra bonuses, play at the “Hardest” difficulty level or lower.
