For me, I feel like the centaurs have lost some of their core identity, and are basically weaker copies of a manticore at this point.
Currently, the centaur’s arrow volley ability is the same as the manticore’s barbed tail spike volley, but the manticore’s attack just hits SO MUCH HARDER.
You have no reason to build centaurs if you research manticores right now, which doesn’t make sense as you should be able to utilize all of the units in your arsenals to win games.
From what I can see the dev team don’t want insta kill abilities in the game anymore (seeing that they nerfed several myth units such as medusa, or how they changed the focus of the Mummy unit to be more of an area of effect ability), but they should seriously consider letting the centaurs fit back into their original mold of being a mobile cavalry for raiding, instead of a weaker version of another myth unit.
Suggestion:
Give Centaurs the ability to keep shooting while moving, as long as the units/structures that they are targeting are within a 270 degree radius of the front of the unit, so that they cannot shoot units directly behind them, and don’t put this ability on a special ability timer.
That is enough of a change to let the centaur fit back into it’s role of a raider unit without making the centaurs into a one shot kill units again.
You might need to nerf some of the other aspects of the unit to make this balanced, but at least the centaur will have it’s own niche spot in the Greek Mythical roster.
It needs a larger area of effect with more arrows falling from the sky and they need to fall to the ground faster to make sure you actually always get some hits on enemies because getting hits on enemies is the biggest problem with the new Special attack. The amount of damage from a hit after making that change can be adjusted to keep it from being OP.
Just make the circle have like 30% more radius and the special is fine. The old centaur identity was oneshotting units then running away until it recharges and is definitely not welcome back.
Right, the trolls weren’t very remarkable before. In fact I totally forgot about them. The new trolls are by far better (healing by throwing small rocks vs lobbing large rocks).
That was their whole gig though - expensive raiding cavalry
Giving them the ability to shoot while moving would still give them the chance to fit into their old mold but keep things fresh and NON OP
Giving the centaur’s new ability more of an area where it “could” hit something or doing more damage just doesn’t feel like it would be a useful boost to me.
Again, just more of the same as we already have manticores that have a similar abiltiy.
Actually, we already have 2 units that do something similar, with the Satyr’s spear through AND the manticore’s barb shot
I don’t like the idea of 3 units having the same kind of ability, especially when 2 of those units belong to the same civ/culture - just feels like lazy design when you can make each mythical creature unique
