Hi @LordLatium
This is kind of a strange issue that occured to some players in the past couple of years, I know some players could fix it following this workaround:

  1. Delete your user files. For deleting your user files, you should:

a. Make sure that your Steam Cloud is disabled in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, General.

b. Go to C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE.

c. Copy your user folder to a safe place, it has lots of numbers.

d. Delete the original folder

e. Verify your files in Steam, AoE2 game, Properties, Local Files.

f. Open the game again. A new user folder will be created.

If this works, then copy back the files from your old user folder. Those files are in the folder -C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE<0>\Savegame, Recorded Games and Save games.

I hope it helps, ask me again if you couldn’t fix it or if you have any doubt.

Hello,

Thanks for the detailed steps!
But it did not work…

I did not copy back all the profile folder contents (did some cleaning of saved games) but kept the structure. The only noticeable think i found is that the “Hotkeys.hkp” changed to spanish… but still.

I did reactivate the steam cloud afterwards, could it have reverted the changes back?

Is team colors on? Turn it off and it should fix it.

edit: Options → Interface → Color → Unique Player Colors [on/checked]
edit: Alt+G in game.

edit: Oh… That can’t be it… both players wouldn’t be blue in that case… But, lemme know if that is it… If so, weird…

i would honestly disable cloud sync period

if corrupted or old file format is on cloud, and your newly created profile folder gets forced sync’d with those corrupted ones then u are back to square one

turn off steam cloud syncing at least for AOE2 DE, if not just disable it entirely if u can and delete the profile folder again and try. if that doesn’t work re-install game, reinstlaling game help from time to time that can even fix things which verifying game files couldn’t
