An alternative to skin packs

Based on recent discussions, I can up with a different way to deal with all civs having French unit skins.

Hiw about, instead of adding skins, the devs add new units. It could go like this. Say they make a whole Aftican generic unit set: “African longswordsman”, “African archer” etc. But only for SP missions. So, if you play as Malians in MP, you build regular longswordmen, but in the campaign you build African longswordsmen instead. Same stats, no MP rebalancing and readability concern, more immersive SP.

What do you think?

Your suggesting different names for the units or completely different set of units for the single player?

Eg the unit looks like the current longsword but is named african longswordsman

If its a set of completely new units then its a big no no as it just ruines the gaming experience for everyone. Why would I want to relearn how to play SP if its fundementally different from MP?What happens if I want to play against AI with a friend?

Splitting units would need reworking most existing campaigns and scenarios to have coherent units there. Why overcomplicate it ?

And on top of that it would require complex scripting for scenarios in which you pick your civ if you want to keep visual accuracy while having unit spawned at the start or by script, if it’s even possible “if player is this civ then…”.

Even more overcomplicated.

Just make regional civs an optional DLC (such as the HD textures pack) or an option.
