I’ve noticed that Italy has several interesting resource shipments based on the Lombards, such as Monte di Pietà and Florentine Financiers. I’ve been thinking about what would happen if one of these shipments were implemented as an infinite shipment in Age IV—something like 250 of each resource for the Lombards, essentially acting as a reload for them, perhaps called something like Venetian Financiers.
I would also suggest making the amount scale with the Age. For example, in Age V, it could provide around 400 of each of the three resources.
I think this could help quite a bit, as it would address Italy’s lack of a second factory while also making Lombard micro-management a little less tedious, without requiring any other major changes to the civilization.
I’d be interested to hear what you guys think about the idea.
Seems perfectly reasonable. Maybe raise the maximum amount of each res your Lombard pool can have too. I think it’s like 5000 of each right now. Doubling that would reduce the amount of micro needed, at the expense of it taking longer to get the resources back because it’s essentially queued.
The idea is not bad, but your new infinite card would only be used by players in Treaty. That’s why it can’t be added.
You could just add more Financiers cards at every age.
Let’s imagine something like:
Palermo - 1800 food (age 4)
Milan - 1000 wood (age 3) and so on.
Or, you could make a new Lombard tech that you unlock at age 4, which could be:
Medici Diplomacy: gives you a second send of Financiers cards from your home city.
These cards/tech would be useful for everyone.
About the micro-management, you can use and learn by heart the hotkey that help with using the Lombard, if you haven’t already. That could take some of the load off you.
The main idea of this card is for it to act as a patch for Italy’s economy in Treaty without causing any unintended effects in Supremacy. My intention with the post is for the card to be useful across most game modes.
I have them optimized in the hotkeys. The other goal is to deliberately delay the Lombard’s full recharge.
If I had to suggest an idea, I would first make sure it’s also fairly useful in Supremacy mode (overall with new cards), since that’s the main mode used as the reference for game balance. THAT’S WHY I’m saying their idea has very little chance of being added, because this card is too focused on the Treaty game mode.
And I want to point out that, if micro-management is a problem for the post’s author, which I understand, it’s not only a problem for Treaty players — in Supremacy mode too, players also work hard to manage their investments.
Those one-use financier cards are a drop in the bucket for Treaty mode. No one uses them in a serious match. That Lombard tech would be a few more drops, which would quickly evaporate after training less than 50 Bersagliere.
I’d rather have the Economic Theory card than more one-use financier cards. Italy needs all the help it can get in Treaty.
There are quite a few cards in this game that aren’t useful in the supremacy 1v1 meta. The new card that was suggested would be an infinite shipment that can be used in whatever mode the player pleases.
That’s true, but I still don’t think these cards were planned for treaty format. The meta keeps changing, and some cards end up outdated over time, when they aren’t already.
Honestly, I’ve got nothing against this infinite card, it’s not a bad idea, like I said. It’s just that the over-management of the Lombard affects every mode, even if, I’ll admit, the problem shows up more in treaty.
I’d rather go straight at the problem, if we agree that investment management needs to be made easier, and deal with the root of it, instead of looking for workarounds for the people who are hit hardest.
Rather than unlimited investment cards, I would like Italian investment cards to ensure that shipments from the capital also bring a certain amount of investment resources for Lombards.
Something like…
Monte de Pietà: Ships 1 Lombard Wagon and deposits 600 coins into the player’s Lombards (now your shipments also deposit 50 of each resource into your Lombards).
Sienese Financers: Deposits 800 food into the player’s Lombards (now your shipments also deposit 200 food into your Lombards).
Luccan Financers: Deposits 1,200 wood into the player’s Lombards (now your shipments also deposit 200 wood into your Lombards).
Genoese Financers: Deposits 1,200 coins into the player’s Lombards (now your shipments also deposit 200 coins into your Lombards).
Florentine Financers: Deposits 2,300 coins into the player’s Lombards (now your shipments also deposit 500 of each resource into your Lombards).
Obviously not the papal ones, although I suppose I could also make it the other way around and only the shipments from the basilica bring investments.
Still think lombards should get atleast half a trickle of a normal tavern. Could even make it so, that it is passivly paid into the lombard, that would lessen supremacy issues and treaty issues.
I suppose your idea is more solid. Instead of adding a new card, they could modify an existing one so that it provides its standard resource deposit and then becomes infinite.
Yes, that’s not a bad idea and it could work well together with the Uffizi map. It’s a bit too close to the Danish tax system, I would have liked something more unique, but it’s not that bad. The only problem is that you’re giving Italy a new civilization bonus.
Interesting idea. As long as it works with infinite shipments, these changes to the Financer cards would guarantee that at least some resources are going into the lombards every once in a while, even if the player forgets to micromanage them.
