About 3 months ago Hera made an 1v1 Arabia tier list video. On that video, he said that newer civs are not having problems with dealing Huskarls. He also said he would make a video on this. it is still on due as he was busy with hosting tournaments.
What’s heras issue with goth spam?
He wins games way before this happens.
And his list is nonsense. Current Slingers do nothing against Goths Spam. And many civs don’t even need a dedicated Goth spam counter in the hamster meta, as goths aren’t allowed to do their thing anyways.
If there was one who should know that best it should actually be Hera…

Idk why you would consider white feather guards a better counter to huskarls than Wu champions or even Chinese champions. Infantry UU != auto counter to huskarls
Also if you think mangudai alone can counter huskarls spam, you haven’t really played that matchup.
It’s really tough to explain what makes it so complicatede to encounter a goth spam. It’s a macro nightmare. And especially with ranged units it’s really hard to find solutions as you can’t split them to protect against all angels.
Which btw even applies to Hand Cannoneers. Standard HC just won’t do nothing against a goth Spam unfortunately.
The key is usually not to allow Goths to do this to you - and that’s the key point imo even if it currently isn’t so much of a thing. If it leaves the collectoral mind of the community it will become a thing again at some point possibly.
And yes I would argue the other way around. Imo like just 20 % of civs have actually a tool to stop the goth spam. Most other civs have to rely on denying it.
Nah, you can’t stop gothic spam with anything… unless you throw a lot of castles into bottlenecks and knights, and even then you’re going to suffer a lot…
You are right. I don’t have 3k, so I thought 100 HP Infantry UU = counter to Huskarl. Amd I totally forgot Wu’s infantry regeneration bonus.

Only because they are expensive. If you can produce in sufficient numbers, they do okay. This is why also added slinger as they are trash and spammable. But maybe Champi with extra HP, MA and attack speed are probably better now I think about it.
I will say 100% of civs have to rely on denying it as the first option. No need to risk your game just because you have good HC or good infantry.
I would argue that FU hussar are a good counter to huskarls, so Goth should not forget to mix in halberdiers. If the hussar civ adds heavy scorpions and some infantry, they should not be that bad off. Not winning as Goths are designed to be top tier in late game, but at least it us nit an auto win.
I would also argue that Magyar Hussars + HCA or scorpions are a good answer to Goth infantry spam. I do not see them as a civ without counter to Goth late game.
Civs with good Champions + scorpions such as Britons/Chinese can also use this combo against a goth infantry spam. It does not beat a Goth late game, as Goth can effectively counter it with hussars or gunpowder or full champions, but it should hold a Goth infantry spam. But then, hand cannoners alone are not a great counter to beat huskarls spam, and can also be easily countered with Goth skirms or hussars.
I agree that at equal late game skill level, <20% of the civs can hold Goth late game, let alone beat it. Same as against a Magyar/Berber/Mongols late game.
If the question is “how many civs have anything at all”, then I think most civs do, and it revilve around whether or not the civ have a unit that can properly take care of Huskarls with low gold cost. In which case it is usually about hussars, or a good infantry unit, or slingers, or a high base damage ranged unit like hand cannoners/scorpions (scorpions might be too clunky though).
Same thing can be said for Mongols. That’s why I added them on having counter list. Huns, Cumans, Wei not so much as not their Imperial Age CA units are not as good as Mangudai. Also against Halb, Hussar with extra HP help Mongols more than faster training speed of Huns, Cumans or extra MA of Wei.
Wait the Shu spearman can win against a huskarl? i haven’t tried this out yet.
What do you mean Huns? they have fine cavalry to counter them.
