That animal died out pretty much the moment people arrived in New Zealand.
The concept art specified the dog as āSpanish War Dog (Mastiff)ā, so there is a slim chance for more variants. In AoE3, there are both a German Shepherd and a Mastiff as War Dog (Iād really like to have the former for personal reasons).
In another thread, I suggested different breeds (not necessarily war dogs) to cover different parts of the world. For the Americas, it would be a hairless dog breed.
But it took more than 25 years to have a proper dog in the game, so Iām happy with only a mastiff for now. Well, there has been Stormy Dog since AoC, its model could be used for a āseriousā unit.
Thats in the timeline!
For a brief moment. Hardly worth it.
Moa would make more sense, since they were at least hunted by humans. Still only about 100 years between being discovered and becoming extinct though. Also I wouldnāt expect a MÄori civ to fit into AoE2 in any sensible way.
The only way the Maori could be included is as part of a Polynesian umbrella.
Dont give them ideas ![]()
Tbh New Zealand as a pilgrims style map sounds fun to me
Wahles are confirmed with the next dlc
Maybe theyāll add Whales and other new Gaia objects to the Scenario Editor of RoR, but Iām not so sure about that. Updates for the Skirmish maps of RoR featuring the new objects, or even new maps, would be surprising.
But itās nice that Whales will be in the base game, anyway.
Next to the dead beached whales, the living ones will look tiny, though. ![]()
It is so pretty, love it. The dolphins too need remake it and do image bigger.
It will also be a source of coins, like in Age of Empires III. I wonder if it will be a limited or indefinite source, like in Age of Empires III.
From the Muisca civ overview. Say hello to⦠vicuƱas? It looks like Alfred the Alpaca without crown, but the alpaca is the domesticated animal, and it has no collar. The animal might be āFoxā-like. Well, weāll see next week.
Guanacos are way more common than VicuƱas
Like a Mediocre Trebuchetā¦
Yes, that sounds good to meā¦
Letās go!!!..and now you can even mine for gold like in AoE 3ā¦
Yes, there are many in eastern Patagonia, so itās not unlikely that the Mapuche found them (at least in the 19th century)ā¦
No, it also appears on the Loch Ness mapā¦
Letās not exaggerate, at most it would be like in AoE 3ā¦
Yes, like the treasures and minor civilizations in AoE 3⦠they donāt do much, but at least they liven up the mapsā¦
Yes, but in AoE 3 thereās an unwritten rule against hunting them since theyāre the gameās mascotā¦
Yes, they attack you with teeth like a giant hamsterā¦
Yes, many animals are missingā¦
Well, they exist now, but only as a Spanish campaign unitā¦![]()
Yes, giraffes from Retold and 3DE are missing too (although we donāt hunt them because we like to watch them graze)ā¦
Yes, alsoā¦
Yes, also⦠the Bison for a North American DLC, the Elk for a Norse DLCā¦
Yes, even the classic Age of Empires 1 has alligators⦠and in Age of Empires 3 they are treasure guardians on tropical maps: Bayou, Caribbean, Yucatan, Amazon, etcā¦
Yes, and selling cosmetic packs for the Explorers was a good idea to finance the game without having to release DLCs all the time⦠if the game had been by Paradox or CA, we would have had v3, v4, v5 packs, etc.
Yes, I already put it aboveā¦
Yes, the devs can add the moas too, since they only became extinct in 1500ā¦
Niceā¦
Yes, those would be good ideasā¦
Yes, they became extinct in 1500 when the Maori arrived in New Zealandā¦technically itās not medieval, but itās within the timeline of Age of Empires 2ā¦
Yes, that would be a good idea⦠but this is fine to start with⦠the devs can add more dog types throughout the DLCsā¦
Yes, thatās rightā¦and they can be āminedā like in AoE 3ā¦
Yes, and in AoE 1 they were a food source (just another fish)ā¦in AoE 2 theyāll be like their AoE 3 version, a source of gold/coins (since whale fat was sold to make candles and grease candlesticks, and in the Industrial Age it was used to grease factory machinery)ā¦
Yes, I would make it infinite so as not to fill the map with whales and so that they are more of an occasional animal in some points of the naval maps: Islands, Archipelago, Socotra, etcā¦
Yes, itās the guanacoā¦itās already been confirmed on the wiki that theyāll arrive with the TLC DLC along with the rhea (South American ostrich), the tapir, and the black pantherā¦we could even get real-world South American maps like the Andes, AraucanĆa, Pampas, and Patagonia, since we havenāt had that many real-world maps since TLK (in 3K we only had the Great Wall map)ā¦
Guanacos were already confirmed with an earlier screenshot:
The new one really is Alfred the Alpacaās model without crown. Now I think itās an alpaca, as they probably would have made alterations if it was intended to be a vicuƱa.
Though it looks like a Gaia-only animal despite being domesticated. Since alpacas are primarily bred for wool, they might provide gold, and there were no intentions to introduce gold herdables. Just my assumption.
Ah, yes⦠if the devs include both itās better. The thing is, the alpaca was only very concentrated in the Atacama (southern Peru, western Bolivia and northern Chile), whereas the vicuƱa and the llama covered the entire Andes, and the guanaco covered all of western Argentina and all of Patagoniaā¦
Side request. We should get silver mines as well. Silver was a major resource. Gold resource providing mine.
Yeah, we should get more types of mines, instead of just animals that give gold instead of food.
