Anomie in AoE3 - Reforged style modeling

I admit that for me, it’s relatively easy to distinguish the dark blue color of the Voltiguers from the player’s blue color (just like the Rekrut), but well, I admit that personally, I would like the musketeer (Heavy Infantry) to look even more distinct from the skirmisher (Light Infantry), not only for gameplay reasons but also for aesthetic sense.

I consider one of the best representations of the unit of the musketeer (heavy infantry) and the skirmishers (light infantry) in Napoleon: Total War, and it is because it is also possible to distinguish that the skirmishers are thinner while the musketeers are more robust , this is also historically correct as units like the Voltiguers were chosen for being thin, short, and initiative soldiers (while the Grenadiers were made up of tall, stocky soldiers). In this game they even give the skirmishers a single color uniform while the musketeers usually have some white colored elements.

As a personal suggestion I would like all skirmisher type units to have the Sharpshooter animations, maybe many other players think differently but I consider that placing the musket diagonally is something simple. Skirmishers should be considered the forerunner of snipers.

The dark Voltigeurs is the Voltigeurs in the light infantry regiment, and theoretically can also be placed in the game.
For the OP’s problem, I have two solutions:

  1. Let the developer design an option to turn off the skins of all unconventional units, so as to be close to the 2007 game version, for a small number of players with special needs.
  2. I can make a mod to change this unit into a very recognizable low-saturation brown or green, which will never affect the online connection.

For your question, I have already made a MOD. If you want, you can leave a message or private message and I will send it to you. : )
I changed this unit to the color scheme that most closely matches the normal Guard Skirmishers.
If you have other ideas, you are welcome to put forward.
In addition, as a history buff, especially a fan of the Napoleonic Wars, I am personally very happy with this official change.

Finally, I would like to add that if you turn off the black stroke in the game, the recognition will be much better. And even as your screenshot shows, I can still tell the difference between skirmishers and line infantry at a glance, whether it’s movement, backpack or color.

I also strongly disagree with your remarks about Blizzard games. Warcraft Reforged, the remastered version of the popular game Warcraft III, It fails for the following reasons:

  1. Technical Issues: The game was released with numerous technical problems, including graphical glitches, performance issues, and missing features. Many players experienced crashes and connectivity problems, which significantly impacted their gameplay experience.

  2. Broken Promises: Blizzard, the game’s developer, initially promised a complete overhaul of the game’s graphics, cutscenes, and user interface. However, the final product did not meet these expectations. The remastered version lacked the visual improvements that were showcased in the promotional materials, leading to disappointment among fans.

  3. Lack of Communication: Blizzard’s communication with the player community was inadequate. They did not address the concerns and complaints promptly, leading to frustration and a sense of being ignored. This lack of transparency and responsiveness further contributed to the negative reception of the game.

  4. High Expectations: Warcraft III has a dedicated fan base, and players had high expectations for the remastered version. The failure to meet these expectations, coupled with the technical issues and missing features, resulted in a significant backlash from the community.

Overall, the combination of technical problems, broken promises, missing features, poor communication, and high expectations led to Warcraft Reforged being considered a failure.
Contrary to what you said, the remastered high-definition model in the game is precisely the only advantage that most players recognize.

How much more readable are the default Skirmisher skins though? How much of that is just being used to something?

But there are a few ways to make the Voltigeur more distinct while also making it more historically accurate.
They where smaller then Line Infantry (they were drafted from people that were to small to become Line Infantry) and used big yellow feathers.
The feather currently is in team colour but I don’t think that’s necessary, how often are you at risk at confusing how a unit belongs to?
A big fellow feather and a smaller size would make them easier to pick out in a mixed formation.

Also please make giant grenadiers bigger.

People always pick the stupidest reasons for why X game “failed”.
We as AoE3 players should be very well aware of the funny reasons AoE2 players come up with of why they think AoE3 failed.

He is only giving you the tip of using the ACCESSIBILITY options, the game gives us. If you can’t see it right, just use them.
