Cant believe I never noticed this before looking at the files,
But the Landed Gentry card gets changed to a Dragoon Combat card after the Counter dragoon tech is researched.
The effect of the card itself doesnt change but there is a shadow tech granting 20% stats to the Counter Dragoon the moment the 2 conditions are met.

Interesting find. They sure went all out with the convoluted nonsense for these guys. Gotta throw in a hidden card switch and shadow tech on top of being a completely fictional unit.
I wish they could just cut unusable content instead of scraping the bottom of the barrel and inventing units to use every available model.

I suspect the reason for this is to avoid the problem that cropped up with the ranger combat cards where both of the effects are built into the card and therefore even if you dont send the card that triggers the switch you can still get the effect anyway.
The way they did it with the shadow tech, you wont get the dragoon boosting combat effect unless the counter dragoon tech is active. As for why probably for the very edge case of edge case where you revolt to finland, unlock the dragoons and happened to have sent the landed gentry card before
Fictional unit? From what I have read Russia used dragoons heavily and St. Petersburg did have a special regiment.
Also this card has been known to be a dragoon combat card for some time as it has been on the wiki.

It would be all well and good if that’s what they were. But nope, they’ve got to make up a “Counter Dragoon” which is very much fictional. That’s a placeholder name, not something that should make it into the game as a unique unit.
What’s lacking with regular Dragoons that would necessitate making up some nonsense unit? There’s no reason the tech couldn’t give normal Dragoons and buff them with an extra multiplier. That would actually synergize with revolutions with their own unique Dragoons like the Romanian Roșior Dragoon.
And it gets so much worse with the Finland revolution. Literally the only Finnish unit in the game is the light cavalry Hakkapelit. But instead of theming the revolution around them, they shoehorn in a fake unit and make the revolution all about that.

Technically any dragoon regiment who beat an opposing dragoon regiment was a counter dragoon

I think you’re on to something. But technically anything that beats a Dragoon is a Counter Dragoon… So might as well also rename both pikemen and skirms to Counter Dragoon just to be consistent.
