While I bought the full game I spent most of my time playing the trial version of Rise of Rome on the old msn gaming zone. The lack of features, maps, and civilizations you could play it created a very different play style and community than what existed in the full version. I found this to be more enjoyable than the full version and kept me playing the trail versions for years.
Game demos aren’t really a thing anymore, and making a game based on a lack of features is not the smartest business decision, so there’s probably no chance of this.
I also found AoE by playing the demo version first and it would be kinda nostalgic to see a demo for this one too, but I don’t think it’s needed and it would be very unlikely for them to make one.

Well, the new game will be full compatible with old scenarios (eg the ones used in trial verions). That said, considering there was only 1 multiplayer map in each RoR and AoE Trial, you can somehow play close to what you used to play in Trial version, using the same map, rules and settings. RoR trial used a fixed medit map , setting was iron age, resources high, pop 50 if i’m not wrong.
I would be glad if at least i could play the trials three maps again.

I dont mean an actual demo of the game but just the map and settings to recreate the gameplay from the old demo.
@wnevets I know the Demo campaigns are included, so maybe the maps are? The settings were customizable in the old game, so they will be customizable in DE.

I dont recall there being a way to re-create the same rules as the trial version in the full game. The trial had a smaller tech tree and less units, for example no heavy catapult.
@wnevets In that case, I doubt you’ll be able to fully recreate the demo. Sorry 
Maybe a Demo would be a good chance for Microsoft to get a greater audience.
Make the Demo playeble on Win7/8 and get all this guys addicted to DE. After that all will get Win10 to play the whole game
