The people that are associated with the Goths settled in just about every part in Europe and beyond.
And these conquerers weren’t some kind of big staying cultural power in the region, Arian Christianity and the Gothic language died fast in these “Gothic” kingdoms and the kingdoms themselves died not too much longer after that.
Maybe these kingdoms had Gothic rulers in their early days with Gothic laws, but a sort “pure” Gothic identity did not last and became heavily mixed with Latin/Roman influence.
Misrepresentative way to characterise the Goths civ of AoE2 as mediterranean civ.
The Goths in AoE2 have been Poland, Russia, Austria, Saxons, Italy and Spain.
It’s a civ with no cultural identity in AoE2, that has been used wherever and however.
The “Goths” in AoE2 are so messed up.
Weird gimmicky design from the Ensemble devs as a sort of fantasy idea of “barbarians sacking Rome” that isn’t even accurate to IRL Goths or particularly accurate to any medieval location.
Celts are also dumb fantasy civ design, but at least they have some cultural signifiers of where this fantasy civ is meant to represent.
Goths don’t even have that.
They don’t speak Gothic, they speak Old German.
The huskarl is a Scandinavian and Saxon thing, not Gothic.
The Gothic kindgoms are associated with the very very early parts of the Medieval period, but has access to gunpowder.
There are no rules and structure going on with them.
To top it all off, they’re the worst civ in the game and play like crap!
And part of the reason they play like crap is because there is no properly established place that can help focus them.
“Teutons need a buff. HRE had a bunch of heavily armoured knights, give them more melee armour.”
“Khmer need a buff. They had a bunch of crazy good agriculture, give them a farm buff.”
"Goths need a buff. Wait a minute, who do we count as Goths?"
Goths in AoE2 are just ridiculous.
It’s probably the dumbest thing in the world to be mad about, but I’m mad.
It would make me so happy if they were just gutted and turned into a completely new civ.
Start close to a fresh slate and build a better designed, more representative civ.

edit: i misunderstood.
aoe3 fanbase is much smaller, it makes sense it would get less media coverage if the base isnt growing
nevermind the fact that people want to see things they know (america and mexico) compared to some “obscure” african civs (even if the i prefer it the other way around)
Goths and Huns should get an unique castle archicteture at least

Is that to call them cholas would be a bit out of the topic of naming peoples as the names of the civs…
Is that they like to keep the metagame of the game, with the minimum possible changes, that’s why Bert Beeckman said that they liked aoe 3, since their community was more open to changes and they do not send you to the bonfire (which ironically they took out of aoe 3) to the minimum that you make a change that the community of aoe 2 does not like, for something aoe 4 came out as it came out…the players of aoe 2 do not like it, because in addition to being incomplete, it has a metagame very different from the 2 nor did the players of aoe 3 like it because it is very conservative and includes very few playable novelties (wow troops on the walls that original, where I have seen that before?: insert total war saga, strongold and battle for middle-earth)…
Lol I logged in to see if there was any official news but there is nothing. The dlc is supposed (unofficially and concluded as just a possibility by users) to be released the day after tomorrow, right?

Of course, they decided not to eat their heads too much with them… they said “hey the Portuguese have organ gun in aoe 3 and if we copy them as they are in aoe 2 and put them as aunique building the factory (predecessor of the factory of aoe 3) … what a good idea Bert, you are a genius, kiss us xd”…

In fact The Last Khans for 2 DE was the last dlc with 4 civs:the Bulgarians, the Cumans, the Lithuanians, and the Tatars…after that the dlcs came out only with two civs each…
Then the dlc would be announced the day after tomorrow no?..

But we count the Gothic kingdom of Sweden? You suggest to split them?

This just confirms what I already suspected: That the current Indians are based on the Muslim sultanates of India. That’s why they had the Middle Eastern architecture initially.

seems a lot of people are assuming that, and im betting it will be on in the afternoon in murica, so we’ll get a horde of “where is it posts” until its PM in murica
And just because someone with a mustache was a terrible and racist person its wrong to say that they have been heavily germanified through the HRE influence? Like, ask Czechs if they feel closer to Polish or German culture and Im pretty sure they will fall closer to the German side of things

That’s just a GIF, possibly a small indirect tease for the upcoming civs.
Gurjaras civ icon has been updated too:
