The thing is that you are locking a unit that was previously avaible to you (for free) behind a paywall
I know the new stuff is better, but I think it would be better to give a non-DLC civ eles to not make anyo e sad

(No, yes, I get the dilemma. I would feel a tad sour if the “genitour are really useful now” update was paid dlc too.)
and tbf they could give them just the base EA if needed, simply to tick the box, like elite would be better, but at least the base one

This is why I think replacing Indians with Gurjaras would be better. People without the new DLC wouldn’t get a free but limited access to Gurjaras civ in Prithviraj campaign, nor they would lose Elephant Archer.
Also I think this could avoid the horrible mistake in the official trailer video. Civilizations and campaign sequence should be Hindustanis, Bengalis and Dravidians.

Just found out from Steam that the DLC will be unlocked approximately 21 hours later.

People that don’t buy dlc, usually don’t play campaigns rather than skirmish. So they don’t even notice the changes or give a ■■■■ about them. I have casual friends that only bought the game and no expansion after.
I don’t play the campaigns at all, I buy the DLCs for civs. 11

Yes, it will be released a fixed time and date, when the timer on the DLC page goes to zero (approximately)

As far as I understand, Pritviraj will be played with gurjaras whether you have the dlc or not, the Hindustani would go for the Babur campaign…
