Arena of the Gods is coming in a week. I assume, we’ll get some news after that.

They promised Immortal Pillars for this year and time is kinda running out, it’s already November and we don’t even know the date yet.
I’d assume they want to announce the date like one month in advance so they can give streamers and youtubers early access to make content for it.
That’s what they usually do and what they just did with Battle for Greece.
Maybe they are waiting for that to be released so the content creators can focus on Immortal Pillars but then it would have to release in the second half of December which seems kinda unlikely.

Why? Christmas presents are a thing, and for digital items, it makes little sense to buy them a week or two in advance. Unless in the form of gift-codes.

Or are you speculated it’s gonna be delayed to February?

Christmas release? Would be kinda strange.
I don’t know if it will be delayed, I’m just wondering why they are so quiet about it.
Chinese New Year is January 29th next year. But maybe they want to DLC out before that so they can do an event. AoMR did not have any events yet.

Just before christmas has happened before.
In fact, 15 years ago, many videogame and DVD releases (for popular movies) were in November and early to mid december, so people could buy them with the intention of gifting them for christmas. This was to a degree, there was a phenomenon of the “summer hole” when there were little to no meaningfull releases during the summer.
There’s still some companies that target releases to be just before the teams go on christmas vacation.

All of it is still just speculation, tho. It’s still possible that we’ll get an update on steam tomorrow, telling us it will be late november or early december.

I am reasonably sure I saw a roadmap somewhere, but now I can’t find it

If you find it let us know

Risky because then you can’t patch the game for like 1-2 weeks.
People have to go back to office and then finish up a hotfix. Also a lot of people will play during that time anyway so you have even more people that will potentially play a buggy version of your game.

And I’m sure the developers know that. But outside of Indie developers, it’s not them who decide on release dates, but executives at the publisher site, who think about marketing opportunities and sales potentials, and either don’t know or don’t care about those kinds of risks.
That’s the case with a lot of corporate executives. Understand little to nothing about the thing they’re selling, don’t really care either, and only think about how they can maximize their income in the short term.
I don’t know why it’s so few of them that occasionally have a thought like “if so many bottom rank people think there’s a problem with my plan, it might just be worth asking why…”

It’s not that bad. That stuff happens and that’s why games like Concord fail but there are many games that succeed.
The games that succeed often succeed because the internal communication works well. Both up and down the hierarchy.

Worlds Edge seems to have learned from the bad start of AoE2DE, AoE3DE and AoE4 and managed to release AoMR in a much better state.
Though their last DLC (V&V for AoE2) was kinda of a disaster.

May be a bit exaggerated, but I don’t think it’s an unfair point to make.

Still, doesn’t mean that’s what’s happening here. Only that it’s one possibility.
I assume, if the release of Immortal Pillars was within this or next week, we’d probably know by now.

Just found it.

Most likely coming late december

I waited patiently for the launch of China’s DLC, and Chinese players were not anxious to meet it. Although most people were more concerned about the final quality of the game, I thought it was best to make the most of the publicity on the Chinese Internet first, so that when it was officially launched, it might have unexpected effects. I think January 28, 2025, that is, before the Chinese Spring Festival, is the right time for the launch.

对了,如果可以,麻烦DLC带上孙悟空,尽管对于他的登场在我们这里有很多争论,比如时间线不对等问题,但相信大多数玩家还是会很乐意见到他的。

By the way, if possible, could you please include Sun Wukong in the DLC? Although his birth time is later than the game background of the Great Flood, which has led to a lot of debate about this assumption here, I believe most of us players will still be very happy about his appearance. You can design it to not appear in the game plot or to join the plot as a reinforcements from the future.

Towards the end of the trailer, there’s a figure between the legs of the six armed bull guy I assume is Chiyou (since he was mentioned in the video description and is described in a similar way on wikipedia)
The figure is only visible for a couple frames, but it seems to have balls or wheels on its feet made of fire, and in the same frame, there’s a bunch of golden circles that could be an attack with some sort of mythological weapon or a graphic glitch.
This has lead to the speculation that the figure is a character from Chinese mythology called Nezha.
I’ve heard people say “You can’t have Nezha without having Sun Wukong” but I have no idea how true that is.

I haven’t heard of this statement either. Nezha appeared much earlier than Sun Wukong, which indeed fits the time background of this game setting. Similarly, Erlang Shen and his father Li Jing also appeared. But in Journey to the West, there is a lot of interaction between him and Sun Wukong, and we prefer to unite Nezha, Sun Wukong, and Erlang God into a comrade group that resists all authority. You can expect this plot to happen in the DLC of Black Myth: Wukong

I deliberately searched my Internet, and these new discoveries really surprised me. Although I tend to believe that those who say “You can’t have Nezha without having Sun Wukong”simply want Sun Wukong to appear. Because in my viewpoint, Nezha has not yet reached the absurd situation where he cannot be separated from Sun Wukong, and in Journey to the West, they have only transformed from enemies to good friends. But another hypothesis is more exciting. The people who publish these remarks may have stayed in the Chinese Internet for a long time or just like me, a native Chinese, who was brainwashed by some homosexual works of Sun Wukong and Nezha (my god, I’m not so ridiculous). Because the topic of finding a spouse for Sun Wukong is highly discussed on some forums in China, including female angels, female monsters, female monkeys, and even Nezha (although he is a boy, he was resurrected using plants such as lotus roots and lotus flowers after death, and the original description of his appearance was completely that of a girl). Of course, there are now more and more creations that bring Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen together. Although I don’t like the statement that Sun Wukong must have a spouse, there are many outrageous adaptations that made him fall in love with a female monster who should have been his most hated. She should have been the person he hated the most. By transforming into three innocent human characters, she brought Sun Wukong the ending of being wrongly accused and expelled by his protected companions. In such a situation, some people even forcibly turned the two of them into a couple to create and highlight their ridiculous creativity and talent. It makes me feel that the widespread popularity of such adaptations is simply a desecration of Sun Wukong. So I don’t mind designing according to the situation where Sun Wukong and Nezha cannot be separated, after all, as early as the Yuan Dynasty in China, there were a lot of interactive performance plots between them. The things that our ancestors liked to watch were better than the adaptation of the female monster mentioned earlier, right? In addition, we Chinese people are willing to use women to play Nezha in their own movies and TV works. We also default that the relationship between Nezha and Monkey King is more than a friend. Let them stay together. The above is just my personal opinion. After all, we have a high level of acceptance for the adaptation of myths, and many of today’s mythological characters are constantly enriched and improved through various creative works of our ancestors. If we can provide enough interesting ideas while respecting the original mythological text and make most people feel reasonable and acceptable, we also welcome such creations.
