It’s another converstation about how the term “paladin” belongs to the French and how wings should only be on Polish hussars.

If it is for me, I wanted nothing.
If it is for CloudAct1, I can’t see if he asked for it or not.
I’m the more excited for the Bohemian campaign and civ.
The Hussite Wars is a really interesting read and really interesting how it predated the Protestant Reformation.

Yeah actually after all that ado about the uniqueness of poles, I don’t have any love for that civ left in my heart. I will get the addon just for bohemians. And it’s sad cause I was really hoping for an interesting poles implementation in the game. This nationalist thinking just makes me sad, too.
I hope bohemians get something interesting to get to their lategame army comp. If they are designed like koreans without towers before the rebrand, I don’t have great hopes for them.
But if bohemians have anything helpful in the early game, it could be really fun to play with them.
I’m also interested in the campaign, as bohemian history isn’t really part of historic education in germany… I wonder why xD.

… Actually the gold bonus sound good and still i think that they will have some bonus for early start like free upgrade for feudal infantry.

Thank you, someone seems to be enlightended. On my Wingles hussar post the samwidge said exactly the same things as he is repeating now and there as here I already informed the thread that the Western European Term ‘‘Paladin’’ means the ‘‘perfect knight’’. One whom is pious, noble, humble and dedicated to God and the servace of others, it is and never was a military term.
The word ‘‘knight’’ in its self is also a European military station of nobility which has no connection to other non European Civs. Hense if you can just squint and try to see a bigger picture , you will find that the ‘‘Knight’’ line in AoE is just a HEAVY CAVALRY line, a trem used in all other civs irrespective of what they called in in their language.
Thus for me Knight ,cavalier and Paladin is actually anything representing heavy cavalry, such as Heavy cav, Officre heavy cav and Cataphract or what have you.
The problem with the Hussar is exatly the problem we have with all the other units , the problem is NOT THE NAME, it is that Civs set in Asia, Africa,ME and Americas are to this day forced to use skins of 14th century European soldiers. And THAT is what we would like to see changed.
I already administer this change myself by means of my ‘‘Historical Accuracy’’ mod but since I am forced to spend weeks reallocating each sprite to every correct civ unit after any major update, the aim is to eventually have by defualt region specific units in game, such as African Soldiers for Africa, Asia,ME, the Americas and more (Most units wielding a sword, spear and bow in aoe3 will be perfect for this).

Couldn’t have put it better myself. And this shows how poor the comparison is between an universally used term as “Paladin” for Heavy Cavalry and an oddly unsuitable design of winged Hussars for civs that had nothing to do with the Poles.

I’m ok with Chinese and Japanese cavaliers.
That statement will summarise how I feel about the skins of units in the game.
If you see my posts then you know I care about history, so know that statement isn’t coming from a place of ignorance.

Is a borrow from the german “ritter”. So the whole “polish knights should be the best” is actually really, really weird, as they appearently just adapted them from german countries.
And so is the whole “polish should have the best palas, the only ones with wings…” Thing. It’s just silly. And therefore we compare it with equally silly proposals.
OfC is rebranding the paladin silly, it’s silly because of the same reason why “poles should be the only ones with wings” is silly. Because the game isn’t historically accurate and some things are just fine with being inaccurate. Nobody complained til now that there were other “Paladin” civs than franks.
And so nobody also should complain that there are other winged civs than poles.
If we would begin with that logic, it would just become a total mess.

Out of nowhere, random person talking to himself that no existing person want Polish Paladins to be the best in game.
Next someone will ask if Poles got Hand Cannoniers since they were commonly used in Medieval Poland and we will get reply to the question: “Why you guys want Poles to have the best Hand Cannoniers in the game ?”

I’m hoping to see more unique scenario units and assets. A lot of folks are thinking about multiplayer but I’m excited to see scenario stuff. Maybe even some new triggers and customization.
