AoE II: DE Building Set Feedback (Non Insider Discussion)

Maybe we can just remove destruction anims, having they fall as HD buildings.

I think the Franks should be modified a little bit in the Definitive Edition to represent them better.

First of all, the current wonder should be replaced, since the current one is based on the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. This doesn’t make any sense, considering the impressive medieval buildings of France. They could use some of the beautiful cathedrals like the Rouen Cathedral or the Reims Cathedral, one of the urban palaces like the Palais de justice de Rouen or the Palais Jacques-Cœur in Bourgues, one of the castles like the Château de Saumur or the disappeared Château de Mehun-sur-Yèvre.

A better design for the architecture used by the Franks and other civilizations of Western Europe. Make buildings based on the medieval architecture of cities such as Rouen, Troyes, Chinon and Tours.

Include a second unique unit to represent better the Franks in the Late Middle Ages, the Frankish Paladin, originally set to appear as the unique unit of the Franks, also it would be better if the unit’s name was “Chevalier” to avoid confusing with Paladin. Besides this, it would be good to add Bloodlines to the Franks and eliminate the Cavalry Archers to balance, since they are supposed to be a cavalry civilization they need Bloodlines, also the Franks didn’t use Cavalry Archers.

Thank you.

As the wonder of the Franks I would suggest the Notre-Dame.

Another vote to change the Britons’ wonder… which is Aachen Cathedral in Germany.

Any cosmetic changes are probably likely, the Wonder for example is likely to be changed I think.

As for balance changes, like giving bloodlines or a second unique unit, these have 0% chance to happen. Franks are already an extremely strong civ with the highest winrate in 1v1 of all the 31 current civs.

I’d think any suggestions for major changes in the architecture are too late now, given that screenshots already show major parts of the build set and the beta’s going to begin soon.

And of course they’re going to make changes but I wouldn’t expect anything as major as new unique units for existing civs. It’s not a completely new game after all. They have to stay true to the original.

I love this suggestion and am all for it!

I think the discussion here is important. I think that the Franks don’t necessarily need a new unique unit. But just some kind of visual that stands out. At the very least adding their own Paladin visual or unit. Either way give Franks some sweet look. All for that.

Ideally, each civilization would use its own architecture, but this would be a great job (which always brings great benefits). I have been playing this game for almost two decades and as an architect I was always disturbed by the architectural style and the representation of some wonders (some are badly reconstructed and others should belong to other civilizations).

The minimum changes I would make would be to the wonders of the Britons, Franks, Spanish and Saracens, why? as some of you already know the wonder used by the Britons is the Aachen Cathedral, the wonder used by the Franks is the Prague Cathedral, the wonder used by the Spanish although it’s on Spain it was built by the Almohads, and finally the Saracens represent the Muslims of the Mediterranean Basin, from Egypt and the Holy Land concretely (campaign of Saladin and Mamluks) but they use as wonder the minaret of the mosque of Samarra in Mesopotamia.

Something that surprises me is that they have not improved the architectural style used by the civilizations of Central Europe and Western Europe, they are very bad representations of the medieval European architecture, which is understandable in a game of 20 years ago made with less knowledge but not now and seeing the impressive new architecture of Central Asia. If they are ever going to improve these architectures, I suggest them take inspiration from the architecture of Rouen for the architecture of Western Europe and the architecture of Nuremberg for the architecture of Central Europe, as good examples.

Hi, first of all i really love the central asian buildings. When i was in Uzbekistan :uzbekistan: in the year 2017 i was lucky to see all the buildings from near i was very fascinated by their beauty and turquoise colors. I can recommend you all to visit this beautiful country.

I’m wondering which language the Tatars and Cumans will use in the game. Will the Tatars use the modern Kazan Tatar language? Or Uzbek/Chaghatai (if they also represent the Timurids). The Cumans could use a Kypchak Turkic language like modern Kazakh or Noghai. Let’s wait and see.

During the mixer interview they showed a very tiny part of the Amir Timur campaign you can see that they are using pigs as pets. I think it would be better to use sheep and goats instead of pigs in this campaign. In the normal random games which you play online against other players or offline vs the ai it doesn’t matter but when you play a campaign as a muslim civ it is weird to have them as pets.

While i was surfing on the internet i found a book which is called “Cumans and Tatars” maybe the devs were influenced by this book?

I totally agree you with the idea that create independent architectures would be an expensive work.

The biggest problem is that the architectures they chose were too “special” to represent architectures in their culture. They just need to choose more “generic” samples from East Asian, North European, West European architectures that can represent other architectures well in their own area.

However, all building graphics seem to have been done, to remake them is expensive too…

I totally agree that the new Cuman/Tatar GFX set should also be given to the Persians.

I’m not sure about the Mongols; if they’re not given a new unique set then I’d say they should keep the default Asian set. It’s not perfect but it does the job.

Hopefully the Britons’ wonder is replaced with something like the Tower of London or a large cathedral in England (Ely, Salisbury), and the icing on the cake would be a new Greek voice set for the Byzantines. Makes no sense that they have Latin voices.

Wish we could see what your Persian monastery looks like. Everything else looks really good though!

Yes it was found by a Roman Emperor but its the location its a Greek Location and the Architecture is depends on location, not Emperor. lol. Face the facts Microsoft got it wrong in this case, sadly.

If it was founded by Romans they would’ve used Roman techniques. Also, Roman culture was dominant in many places due to their conquest.

Didnt the romans have greek architects or something like that
