AoE needs to improve the social aspect. I wanted to add someone I played with in ranked but couldnt

AoE is a game that u need to play with someone. Playing aoe alone sucks and someone who does it will probably leave the game soon or after. Are they working in improving the social aspect? The lobby and the friend list. Friend list is a MUST

Thanks for reading me and sorry for my English

I’m not aware of any social aspect being worked on, but literally only a few days ago Hera, one of the top players if you don’t know, put out a somewhat controversial video, that to overly summarize, stated that AOE2 NEEDED to add/improve social functionality to the game if it were going to thrive long term.

So influential people in the community agree with you and would like to see the same stuff added.

Its nice that famous players give feedback of the game. I hope devs hear him and other players if they are saying the same

This is something I’ve been saying for ages too, the social aspects of the game are archaic at best and actively opposing you in making friends at worst.

Right now the workaround is you use third party websites to see your history of played games where you can grab the other player’s Steam account from, so you can send them an invite. It’s very obnoxious and tedious to do.

The problem comes from when the other player is not from Steam, but from Xbox. You can’t get their Steam page then, and there’s no cross-over potential to my knowledge, so in-game friends list would be the easiest and most inclusive solution. I hope they manage to revamp and modernize their current social systems, because it is actively hurting the game and its potential in my opinion.

Personally, I disagree, but it depends on what you’re playing alone. Ranked 1v1s for example are really enjoyable, and I wouldn’t want to leave the game because of them or anything like that.

I’ve heard players like Viper, Hera etc who used to play on Voobly before DE came out really miss the social aspects from Voobly

a good design should need “influential” people to agree with first to be implemented. adding friends should be a common thing, though understandably this game and engine is over 20 years old.

if one uses steam to play, theres steam friends as replacement which works fairly well. for xbox, thats on microsoft xbox team rather than the game.

Once you’ve friended someone, sure. The process of actually friending them is much harder to do externally, there’s no super easy way to do so.
