AoE2 is going to die soon

Yeah, he’s talking about the free patch, of which I 95% agree with him on (new pathing bugs are pain). I don’t consider the free patch and the DLC part and parcel precisely because they aren’t. You don’t have to buy the DLC to benefit from the Free Patch.

And yes, for what it’s worth, I also agree with him on this as well. Devs, good damn job on the Free Patch.

Now please, for the love of God, stop with the experiments…

Don’t dig too much into that. Pathing, flemish revolution, obsidian arrows, hundreds of bugs, the game has survived so much nonsense. Because of the last 2 DLCs I think the campaign community grew in numbers and the opposition this time is very high. 6-8 months later if the capture age team releases a dedicated campaign DLC with excellent attention to historical details, all of them will be pleased again. The worst part about this DLC is the missed opportunity to utilize the growing popularity in China and significantly increase the active player base. If there’s some decent sales, the game will continue but civ DLCs might become infrequent.

There’s a custom campaign called Three Kingdoms which is one of the most downloaded. So they probably thought naming the civs after the three kingdoms will be well received.

So, question then, since I’m at work and away from my computer; does that custom campaign happen to cover the actual Three Kingdoms period, or is it like the DLC and only covers the prologue?

lmao. This one I still remember the thread of the guy checking the sources and discovering that everything in the wikipedia page was fake and the AoE2 descriptions where directly take from the wikipedia page word for word. That was really embarassing.

But the free patch was very good. The content is basically what fans have been asking for years…

Oooo, can you link that? Unless it was the Reddit thread.

Its indeed the reddit thread from badhistory that discovered the fraud.

:rofl::rofl: They just buy 2 new civ and play just it. Why need leave :grin: here is not AOE 1 DE

I play both Romans and Slavs, I consider them similar - paired in my mind (based on their tech tree and ID), which saves me thought process, and I use them interchangeably which adds variety (actual and thematic) to my play time.

Interesting.

I think that in an interview, a dev responded to that controversy and defended himself saying something like, they mostly add things that are easy info to access on the internet, but this time they used a very specific and niche military manual for the Thirisadai. I mean, I’d trust him, it’s not like they’ve ever lied or anything…

Yeah I’m sure “in 2023 we released two flash in the pan commercial duds” wouldn’t have sounded quite as impressive.

Again, we’ll probably never know actual sales figures, but I wouldn’t put any stock in their blog post spin.

People that made them say they did well, why believe them?

People that dislike them say they did poorly, why believe them?

If we’ll never know sales numbers why assume they did poorly?
You seem adamant in your conviction in spite of your own advice

If they sold really well why would they not then make more of them. Seems like a pretty simple inference to me.

I suppose it’s possible they sold like hotcakes but MS decided not to make more cause the challenge builds character.

I suppose we’ll never know for sure

How can you make more of ROR? It was adding the first game into 2. They only added Viet because 1 is popular in Vietnam.

As for the main game they are making more DLC with new Civs, 5 ‘Civs’ 3 campaigns. The subject matter is the issue, besides that it’s functionally the same and technically more content.

After this there will be a chronicles DLC, because chronicles is a separate team working simultaneously.
Then they will make another mainline DLC, maybe going back to 2 Civs, 3 campaigns.

If anything the increased support for the game, large free updates and a extra studio working on it suggests the DLCs have been making money and are leading to more DLC in the future.

Make more civs and campaigns….you know….like what they do for aoe2

Repurposed chronicles esque content is not remotely the same.

I’ll believe it when I see it considering we already know 3k was changed from something more chronicles like to less.

IDK, feels like a desperate get everything out the door and hope something makes a difference.

People seem conflate ‘Chronicles’ with anything non-medieval

The Chronicles DLC is being work on by CaptureAge, the creators of the Romae ad Bellum mod. That team is separate from the main team and Chronicles is their creation. Considering that they are still employed, they are working on a new Chronicles DLC following on from the last. They have no connection to the current Three Kingdoms DLC.

‘Chronicles’ is a CaptureAge Series, not a codeword for non-medieval.

What the main team decides to make is their own choice but they won’t be using the Chronicles branding

As for the update: creating a huge amount of art assets is expensive and time-consuming, I doubt they would do that out of desperation but maybe I’m wrong. They will know by how the DLC sells.

Many people that say “Chronicles” just mean outside of the main civilisation set.
It can be it’s own set. Someone suggested “Legends” which makes sense and would open the door for some other mildly fantastic civilisations.

Yeah, I guess it’s mostly just a semantic issue that bothers me.

This discourse in this Thread is just odd to me. I’m sympathetic to the issues people have with new DLC factions place in history, I’m just surprised by people insisting the game is failing despite all of the content it gets and continues to get.

I don’t want this game to lose support, many here seem to and gleefully

Many people here just don’t want to have the civs in ranked, simple as that.
Outside of ranked you can just choose to ignore them.

If they were in Chronicles the added “benefit” would be that they don’t even show up in the default civ selection.

That’s why i’ve always said chronicles-like or chronicles-esque.

Tho the code and branding are MS property, not CA. If MS wanted FE, Relic, or some rando off the street to make the next chronicle, or the next thing that was basically chronicles but with a different name, that’d be MS’s prerogative.

Also capture age still has capture age to work on so them still being employed doesn’t seem like a sure fire guarantee they’re making more chronicles.

30 likes! Didn’t expect so many likes when I created this post. I thought I will be dismissed for spreading negativity. I just wrote honesty what I felt like.

I am wondering should we @ tag the developers so that they respond? I am really upset with their mute strategy. It’s hurting a lot.
