AOE2 updates are far better than AOE4

I hope with this little content dlc will be cheaper.Aoe 2 upgrades are amazing by the way new castle and unique unit skins are so nice.If they can make normal units skin for each civ too that would be huge.

AOE4 is not their fav child guys

check out on aoe4 reddit, u have amazing people suggesting crusader dlc should be 15$ / 25$ lmao

No, it’s not embarrassing.

AoE2 fans have been asking for unique models for Monks, Temples, Castles, and Elite Units for years. JUST NOW they’re getting it after 25 years, or was it 26?

I’m happy for them; in fact, I’m a fan of AoE2 too.

Now, if you want to compare your game’s new features with another game, which is run by a different team with different circumstances than ours, that’s looking for problems where none exist.

First, for parts:

1.- AoE2 new implementations have been requested for 26 years.- In comparison, AoE IV has had different architecture and unit models per civilization since its inception. I’m happy for the other game; there’s nothing to compare. In fact, this means that AoE IV is ahead of AoE2 in that regard, and that AoE2 is learning from this game, which is something to be happy about.

2.- Civilizations in AoE2 are easier to make.- Most people who have used mods know this. Even fans create modded civilizations with extreme ease.

  • AoE2: You only need: at least 1 unique unit, 2 unique technologies, and then you write the passive bonuses in the code, organize the technology tree, and that’s it.

  • AoE4: Japan has 14 unique units, some with activatable special abilities (shinobi), unique models for each unit, unique architecture, unique buildings, unique mechanics “with animation,” area bonuses, etc.

3.- Anything AoE2 does before AoE4 BENEFITS AoE4.- Because it gives us an idea of how to implement it better, and in 3D. We can literally now consider Tibetans as civs for AoE IV, with more unique units or unique technologies. This increases the hype, not the other way around.

in fact, we would have to consider which of the new additions to the Chinese, both for AoE2 or AoM:Retold, could be considered to add to the Chinese of AoE IV, like the fire archer.

I checked the notes. I don’t like how a lot of those look. I think they are of inferior quality to what’s already in the game.

Tell that to AoE3 players.

im switching fully to aoe4 until the new dlc that adds NEW CIVS is out, see you lads

and i had a feeling they will just release 2 civs , 4 variants again

where as 4 civs 2 variants would have been way better

You all forget that AoE II civilizations are pretty much the same
In AoE IV, civilizations are totally different one from another.
Different mechanics, different approaches, different strategies.
All Asymetrical!!!

Variants are boring and are messing up with the game, the Jean “civ” feel off, the giants civ variant feel off as well, they are unrealistic, it is just a cheap way for them to get your money with low effort.

Not anymore, this has been changing with every patch/DLC, civs in age 2 feel more unique

Pretty unique with only 1 unique unit and technology hahaha XD

Yeah I don’t know about that. What did they change exactly?

I’m fairly sure that if I launched AoE2 today, it would feel less unique than AoE4’s civilizations. No one is denying its improvements over the years, but AoE4 is miles away when it comes to unique civilizations, simply due to its different approach to designing the game and civilizations.

And it’s well done too. The civs are surprisingly balanced, while still feeling unique.

The “problem” (if you want to say so) with asymmetric civs is that you’re locked into one playstyle and one strat for your civ. Not saying it’s bad which is why I put problem in quotation marks.

Nah, for that, AoE 4 still needs to add features previous games (i.e. not only AoE 2) had. Also, at the end of the day, it’s personal preference.

I see it differently lol. When I played Age 2 It was a spam of Teutonic Knights or Samurai when I played with the respective civilizations. In Age 4 there are many more options for builds and play styles. Besides, each civilization is unique, so when you change civs it feels like you’re learning a new game. But it’s like you said, it’s a matter of personal preference.

Unless you’re playing at the pro level, then you’ll want to always do the meta game. But Valdemar’s series of 3 different builds for each civ still shows the variety for each, even at the high level.

I think so too. That’s why I’m waiting for the patch notes to see if the requested QoLs and features are being implemented.

Features is not everything.

That’s not really true, there are multiple viable strategies for each civ, whereas in AoE2 these are mostly the same for every civ, since every civ is 95% the same. The bonuses of a civ in AoE4 are not always synergetic, and on top of that there are the Landmark choices which don’t exist in AoE2, and the maps and the opponent’s civ that can influence the strategy.

Indeed but they’re an integral part to overall improve the game.
