Well ofc, that’s exactly why KnowingLamb said he hopes devs pay more attention to this game. But being better generally refers to the quality of the gameplay. There have been many improvements to the formula with AoE4. One example is AoE2 is still to this day trying to make infantry viable.
Valdemar’s series of 3 builds for every civ is actually a great proof that the civs in AoE4 aren’t locked into one playstyle.
Which is what the patch eventually seems to address in the right way. Archers won’t be able to outrun Swordsmen anymore and the cost for the militia line has been reduced across the board.

That’s equally not true and something AoE 4 players love to repeat over and over. Civs are much closer to each other but they still have their own gameplan. AoE 2 just does a horrible job at communicating that. Map and opponent’s civ also plays an important role in AoE 2.
Civs do have their own game plan dictated by the civ bonuses, but these game plans blend into each other a lot more, with some exceptions like the Native civs, or the Archer/Knight civs. It’s to be expected that more interesting civ mechanics lead to more variation in gameplay. Whereas in AoE2 a civ has a bit more variation than a civ in AoE4 (because it can mostly do what every civ can do even if less efficiently), but at the same time civs have less variation between each other. I can very well main a single civ in AoE4 and no game feels the same, and there are many different approaches to macro.
They’ve been trying to fix that for a while now. If I were to exaggerate a bit as well with a tongue-in-cheek
remark, I could say close to 3 decades, but let’s see if they get it right this time.

AOE4’s DLC looks like a money grab without much innovation and content.
It is a disgrace to AOE fans and is the worst DLC of AOE franchise.
People who are hyping this kind of horrible DLC must be shamed of themselves.
AOE2DE’s update fixing a lot of things, addints new types of resources, improving elite unit skins, culturial religious units, attack animation improvement and so many things for FREE!!!
But AOEIV’s DLC offering existing civs with little skin changes. The new units dont even look good. Graphics is still horrible for a game that is released a few years ago. And many existing issues are still not fixed since release and no innovation at all. We also didnt receive any new type of animals, gatherable resources and so on. This game and its devs are the worst in so many aspects…
I like how we’re still comparing an update to paid DLC.
AOEIV’s paid DLC is catastrophe.
AOEIIDE’s Update has more value than AOEIV’s upcoming DLC.
Yea, you wont understand, nor want to understand.
The point being made is that a free aeo2 content seems better than aoe4 paid content, when you should get something even better for paying.
This is like trying to compare Victors and Vanquished to the Season 9 or Season 8 update that AoE IV received, and ignoring the accompanying patch.
AoE IV is due a new Seasonal update (Season 10). This is where a lot of the free content normally appears.

So I am not even excited to play AOEIV until I see substantial changes, additions and improvements.
AOEIV is still a complete lackluster and is always behind AOEIIDE in everything (even playerbase…)

But none of this has anything to do with saying the DLC is bad because it doesn’t match a regular update in terms of scope, when the regular update (if it arrives) will be arriving separately.

Gorbmort is right. This kind of comparison doesn’t make sense. Just wait for the Age 4 season update patch.
What he’s saying is you don’t know what AoE4 is going to introduce in the next major update, which comes along with the DLC. If there are features like more fauna, those won’t be advertised with the DLC because they’re gona be available to everyone, same as everything that’s been revealed in the AoE2 update.
It will have a few balance changes and that will be it.
Nothing new,
no new visuals
No visual improvements
No AI improvements
No new FAUNA and Biome
No new animals
and so on.
They wont add it.
Trust me!
They only listen to the Pro and the Pros will never want these things.

Alright, if you’re so sure about it, why don’t we make a bet. The losing side buys the winning side the DLC. Or, in case you’re not a fan of the DLC, I’ll buy you the AoE2 one. 
Waiting will just end you in disappointment.
