personally i wouldn’t want to go too deep on unit visuals, this is the clear design error with aoe4, now ye as medic suggests here, there is a difference between the mercenary and non mercenary, in color only, its still identical model, however, as a counter point, the sheer lack of detail on unit models and textures makes telling which unit is which a rather painfull endevour, so if someone tells me they can’t tell smt apart i completely understand where they’re coming from
Except that those units no longer exist in a regular game after the unique ones are introduced.
Khan’s Hunter did not replace Mangudai.
Right, the point of bringing those units up was because they were units added in patches.
Tweaking an existing unit model for a replacement or upgrade is fine. The entire series has been like that from the very beginning and nobody ever criticized that. That’s how this works!
Tweaking an existing unit model for a new unit placed next to the former is lazy.
If you want to make a new unit. Make a new model. Simple.
And there is no rule that “updates could only tweak models not making new ones. That is for paid DLCs.”.
I don’t see the FREE new monk models in AOE2 being 10 different small tweaks of the original monk model.
And I’m not going into the many FREE AOE3 updates because everyone hates that game.
Making those one or two models may seem to be a huge cost for the individual billion dollar corporate defenders, but negligible for the billion dollar corporates they are defending.
All of the units added in patches have different textures and models though.
Oh in one second they are entirely different now?
That’s NOT how it works!
Any unit added (not altered or adjusted) does have a new model. I’ve never said otherwise.
You cannot say the same amount of work is put into the Khan’s hunter (which is mostly a change in the color of the mangudai model) and all the entirely different monk skins.
They have just sold the best selling DLC of all time. Do better.
If you look carefully they have different assets on the model. The leather chestplate, for example, is a model not a texture.
Okay. You call that a new model.
So now it costs the same as the monk models and they gave it for FREE. World’s Edge is definitely doing charity, now making money (despite having sold the best selling DLC of all time). I will weep for them every day from now on.
True!
They must release better DLCs, not worse!
OMG, amazing!
But what I see is Mangudai and most of the players will agree on that.
If you say that is a new model for the Khan’s Hunter and explain to people around the world, they will laugh at you xD
The biggest plague of “modern” gaming is so many people intentionally confusing games, developers and publishers.
Whenever you criticize a business practice, they consider it as an attack on the game, subsequently on themselves, and an attempt to bring the downfall of their beloved game.
The only people who can bring the downfall of games are the companies themselves. They don’t need our protection. And when they make real horrible decisions, your protection will do nothing.
The corporates are NOT your friends
It’s not 2021 anymore. Now only fanboys remain on this forum.
to add to my critique on lacking unit models, it also explains why the camera is forced to be so close at max zoom out, unit clarity is already poor, any extra zoom out would make it even worse, all because units fail to meet basic standards for visual distinction (remember old RTS games having clear indications in unit visuals as well as animations to tell you what they do, nothing to be found in aoe4 unfortunately)
Yes but is easier and cheaper to do all of that for II
In IV there are uniqueness in mechanics, units, building roster, and so on!
AI improvements are great, those are not only for counterplay or PVE game modes but for players as well
In these revamps, they improve unit pathfinding, stucks, fix bugs and more!
Why would be this a problem?
Makes no sense
Fanboys of individual games and series are miles behind in terms of #####, than fanboys of big companies.
Most of the time. I can talk to the former despite disagreements and understand where they are coming from.
Im sure the DLC was indeed larger and they simply split it out in 2
Lets wait for the second part in October/November
Okay, but I dont see more uniqueness in the coming DLC.
Just as an example, AOEIIDE is adding 25 different styles of castles but AOEIV’s PAID DLC is only adding one at the moment and as it was shown. I think those 25 different castles took more resources than that one KEEP…
