AOE3 DE

I had been wondering if posting would go against the ’dont post Age material’ clause. Guess its a grey area?

Personally I’m quite looking forward to age3 DE. I recently played through the original campaign on hard and while I enjoyed the game immensely, I felt the age of the game with how the ai functions on that difficulty and how… bare bones the feeling can be. Act 1 of the original campaign is challenging due to not having any infinite gold supply and I found the ai in it the best bar a couple missions vs the ottomans, and I fondly remember struggling on the final mission for act 1, holding off the armies of boneguard with my own hordes of rodeleros, hoop throwers and crossbows while desperately shelling the fountain. It felt nice, challenging though the ottoman’s presence was faint, so perhaps the odd reinforcement of jannisaries and on easier difficulties even a great bombard would be nice.

Act 2 felt the strangest with a number of the missions in it feeling dull and needlessly difficult. The final mission of that and the warwick fortress I don’t like due to being fairly timed missions, though the fortress is easily overcome if you’re quick enough and the russians can’t seem to deal with uhlan spam at all, though I will make a note that the ai started feeling rather empty from here on out with the french allies having a greater number of troops than the “mighty” british which threw me, even if the french decided that defending me was somehow more important than attacking.

Act 3 has the most potential, and yet at the same time the worst ai of all, with almost the entire act feeling like I’m up against braindead opponents. The first mission with the railways is decent, with a couple large assaults levied against you and the fort defense with at least one threatening attack, but from that point onwards the ai just died. It relied so heavily on artillery and pub units that I ended up out-producing it on everything, and with the economy so focused on wood instead of food and gold I could always send about 30 skirmishers and mop them up no issue. The biggest disappointment missions for me however have to be the second half of act 3, with the mexican revolution being decent, if unchallenging somewhat, the path to the inca city being dull and tedious, the battle for the inca city itself utilising an ai that focused so much on pub units that the inca allies themselves just wiped them out for me while I dealt with the russians who also lost their brain somewhere.

The biggest disappointment has to be the final mission though. On hard difficulty, I would expect a last stand from the circle, waves of ranged and melee boneguard, the unleashing of white animals and every single trick in the book being utilised, havana defending you as best it can and drawing fire while you urgently build up an economy and army to take the fight back to the enemy. Instead you can either wait for the US army and long range shell the fixed guns into oblivion followed by the sanctuary of ossuss, completely negating a decently defended fortress and making the final mission pointles, or what I discovered not that long ago, let havana completely outproduce the circle and let havana actually beat up the ai in its entirety. I only lost units because havana drew a large force of boneguard to my base thanks to villager stupidity.

I suppose in the end I’m typing this out because I want age3 to be fun and interesting, to feel like the stakes are high and for the map to reflect it as such. The final battle against the circle shouldn’t be possible to win by twiddling your thumbs and making dinner, but a hard-fought battle, shattered defenses as allies assist in every way imaginable against the hordes of boneguard elites and white animals, not spam artillery until the universe itself resembles a giant cannon or mercenaries until armies resemble pmc’s more than actual armies of the time.

My apologies for how long this is, I recently made an account and wanted to post something about age3 to maybe help identify areas for development.

Bonus: I know you’re developing age2 right now, but if possible could you guys make an alternate variant of the campaign? Focused on the circle with a “what if” scenario at the end as a sort of twist on the campaigns, so for alain it would focus on his perspective and dealings with the circle, trying to push morgan away from the cannon and destroying his side of the base before the fountain is destroyed, the second act villain with his assault on the colony before finally ending with his fortress and the russians, tasking you to escort enough cannon through the pass and prevent them from closing said passes, and finally for beaumont to be the end all figure, helping slyly push the mexicans into open combat against the frontier, assaulting the inca city and finally defending the circle’s base against the combined forces of the incas, the US navy and amelia black. Maybe bonus content for beating it all on hard or something.

He would have leaked the logo? or it is a montage done quickly. I asked him confirmation but it will be necessary to wait. In any case if that’s it, it will not be the same style as the 2 other.
