Hi there,
I just noticed that when I’m **rotating** the battlefield/screen in-game in AOE4 it goes from steady 120hz → 40hz for a short amount of time, specially when rotating back and forth really fast ( for testing purposes ) so it’s pretty sluggish.
I have a very high spec PC, which has Nvidia 4080, running a LG Oled 42" C3 120hz TV , using HDR so it should easily handle this, although I’m running everything maxed out at 4k with all settings on High and HDR enabled.
I finally found out what the problem was I just want to share it here:
What was causing this was high refresh rate of my Razer Viper V3 Pro mouse. When it’s set to polling rate of 4000 or 8000 hz, the rotation will lower from steady 1118-120hz ( using G-Sync and VRR ) down to 40hz for a very short amount of time so the rotation stutters. I also tried enabling and disabling in-game V-Sync but that doesn’t seem to matter. Actually it’s a little big better with V-sync on, although I have G-Sync, VRR and low latency set for my GPU.
I have now lowered my mouse polling rate down to 1000hz - 2000hz and the rotation is now butter smooth without any framerate drop, so it’s always steady 118-120hz, even in 4 vs 4 battles where everything is happening fast on massive scale.
I should also note that I **can** rotate using the PgUp and PgDown keys on the keyboard, but if I do it by holding down ALT+moving-mouse the stuttering begins ( from 120hz → 40hz )
The game engine doesn’t seem to support this high polling rate of the mouse. I just wanted to put this out, if anybody else is having these issues. I know most people maybe never rotate their battlefield/screen but I do and this always annoyed me a bit.
The polling rate gets saved to the onboard-memory of the mouse so the Razer Synapse software doesn’t even have to be running. It doesn’t make any difference for the rotation.
Just wanted to share this, that’s all
Changed from 4000/8000 hz down to 1000hz fixed the rotation issue
I do use 8000 hz polling rate in for example Battlefield 6 without any problems at 120hz ( Gsync, VRR, HDR everything the same ), just for testing purposes - I think a polling rate of 8000 is actually a gimmick but that’s not the point. That game handles it just fine.
