I really donāt understand the Twitch metric. Those numbers are viewers not players. I donāt like posting any comparison about that but we should consider the number of players not viewers.

Do those numbers only account for steam users or its a global number of online players that include the players who donāt play on steam.?
Only steam. We donāt know how many players for Gamepass.

I donāt use it, but I think 2DE is also on PC Game Pass.
Ultimately specific numbers do not matter, only their relative comparison does. Numbers like that are important and interesting but for the purpose of this discussion not as much as they would be for execs deciding on funding of the sequel or something like that.
Itās a measurement tool. There is no reason to assume people using PCGP are much different than people using Steam. Following this trail- itās safe to assume 2DE is also more popular there. Iād guess the difference might be smaller for various reasons, but still it would be very surprising to see them switch places.
How many people play games there? Not sure if MS releases such numbers. As in actual numbers of people playing each games, not vague number of service (Game Pass) clients.
Considering that 2DE is an old game i believe that most people who play it are on steam.
GamePass is relatively new. And because of the cost of the game i think new players prefer GamePass over Steam.
But this does not prove the numbers unless data is shown. And most probably put together 2DE still has more online players than Aoe4.
Of course, the victory is not the greatest (itās like rejoicing that a young athlete overtook an old man), but it is significant enough and should finally put an end to topics like āThis game is terribleā or āSo this is why AoE 4 failedā, people have already voted with their money and we see the result.
Actually, Iām not very surprised, this is quite natural and obvious literally from the first days of the release of the game, when it online flew into space.

AoE IVās popularity is quite likely to fluctuate in the upcoming seasons, depending on how people perceive Relicās updates, thatās not particularly surprising.
But Iām also not sure why people have such a dog in this fight. AoE III is not the most popular but it hardly prevents me from playing it, I play what I like, I donāt care how much it sold for, thatās an executiveās problem.

I think AOE3 sucks after playing it SINCE 2008 and personally (outside new civs a a few key changes) I think the EP patch was the best it ever got!

AOE3 is miles ahead of AOE4. Even the graphics are better in some ways.
Aoe4 is a cash grab. nothing else

Which begs the question why youāre an active poster in the Age IV subforum, if nothing about the game pleases you and nothing Relic are doing with the game is helping either.
I understand criticism from folks who want the game to be better. But you donāt seem to want that. You want a completely different game, that Age IV is never going to be, and all the time you do nothing but insult what it is as a game.

Aoe4 is solid and has its problems but it can be the best game of the saga through the updates so i dont see why its an insult ā¦
