No, just no. You’re free to dislike AoE 4. It’s not even my favourite AoE game as I still prefer AoE 2 followed by 3 and Myth.
But saying that 99.99% of the player base thinks this is a bad game is just plain wrong and doesn’t match with any visible and measurable metrics for the game (i.e. reviews, avg player count etc.).
That explains everything…they are the same ones who showed two flags as dlc of AoE 3…
Yes, let’s see, let’s go in parts… AoE 4 is a good game, but due to its slowness it does not fully develop its potential; AoE 2 is a classic and nothing will change that… now if we go for favoritism, it is already subjective each one…I have dedicated hundreds of hours to 2 DE and yet, my favorite is AoE 3 (for being more innovative in historical period, mechanics and graphics), then AoEO which surprised me for good (despite being cartoon, it has a lot of content, plus I love the classic era) and then AoM (because of the mythology)…just in 4th place comes AoE 2 DE, in 5th place AoE 4 and last AoE 1 because its gameplay is very fancy…
Why do the people who think it’s a bad game stick around to tell those who enjoy it they are wrong, or apparently in a minority demographic. ‘Superior’ game is just a weird rhetoric to begin with.
You had a bad time, you didn’t like what you experienced, it just wasn’t as good as what you think it could have been, and so you quit. What is the conversation even about anymore?
Even odder because AoE2 has a forum, that guy doesn’t participate in it. Just here.
Exactly (20 characters)
Bcse AOE2 is an established game. AOEIV is a complete lackluster.
It is beyond fixing already.
Many easy to fix weapon visuals etc haven’t been addressed at all.
They are barely doing something and it is a complete fault on their side…
AOE2 is much better game, it is old yes, but it has far more features and better micro gameplay. AOEIV is just a booming game, combat is completely boring, units holding wrong weapon omg and it gets annoying to see things like that…
Ofcrse people like you never care about such things and as you can see in the AOEIV’s forum, 90% of the people left it. Bcse devs don’t care, I don’t care. And If they won’t address simple things in their next game, they will fail.
Lastly, newer AOEIV cannot beat AOEII, which means a lot of things.
They did too many things so wrong.
And you saying it is good, is biased and illustrated you don’t know what a quality game is.
I bet you haven’t experienced more than 1000 games, which is why you would think AOEIV is so good. In simple words, you are lacking experience.
Or you don’t know it, because you say it sucks ![]()
Anyway, stop applying your opinion on everyone else.
Everyone has a different taste , and saying that you are 99,9% of the players is kind of funny.
Then why constantly participate in a forum dedicated to it? Seems a bit unhinged.
AoE2 has a forum, you don’t participate there though…
Because there aint such stupid mistakes.
AOEIV is fully ruined. People like you ruin the forum with your biased network of people. You guys together remove, hide posts and manipulate this forum. The most corrupt forum in the world is created by you guys. You all know who are they. And players will soon know that most of you are paid actors. Shame…
Well I apologize for my misuse of the word “bit” in my previous comment.
Yes, the games in the saga are already well established with their respective communities… it is AoE 4 that has a very slow support problem, at this point it should have announced its third expansion and bring 15 maps, not just 10 maps and several campaigns, not just one…
Honestly, even though some diehard defenders don’t wanna admit it, the game is lacking in almost every department.
The support is almost not existing and BASIC things are not being patched after multiple years.
And there is no communication, but for a good reason.
As long as they don’t show any roadmap, people believe something MIGHT be coming.
If they publish an empty paper, then everyone knows that the Devs are downsized to a bare minimum and there is barely anything being done about balance/technical issues anymore.
Yes, I don’t rule out a new dlc since TSA sold well and AoE 4 is going to be in the RBW…the rest of the games are the same (AoE 2 will announce a dlc in August by the end of the year, AoE 3 and Retold will have the Baltic and Chinese dlc respectively)…
The majority of the playerbase and current (and past) user reviews disagree with you. Recent reviews are up to 89% positive from an all-time average of 87% on Steam alone ![]()
It’s fine to have a different opinion. Nothing wrong with that. But inventing (or agreeing with) some vast conspiracy just because you have a different opinion is a bit silly, imo.
That’s Gen Z who don’t care about details in games and matchmaking/qol/state of bugs/graphics/gameplay being polished.
They hop from game to game and play one game for a few weeks.
They don’t even notice the absence of support because they are casuals.
They play it for a few hours, give positive rating and jump or fortnite or some trash like that.
On the other hand there are people who have never played a really good, polished, modern RTS like aoe3 or coh2 with amazing gameplay and massive strategical variation.
People who have only played aoe2de and for them of course aoe4 is amazing.
I’m 35 and I’ve played the game since it came out, much like I played AoE II 20 - 25 years ago.
I’ve played every Relic RTS (though CoH not as much - CoH 2 was infamous for its poor performance, and the World Wars just don’t interest me much as a setting), and many others besides.
This isn’t me bragging. We have tons of RTS fans here, people younger, older, belonging to whatever generational demographic. We likely have people here who played video games before I was born.
AoE IV has the same Steam rating as Forza Horizon 4, one of the most accomplished and well-received racing games in recent years. And you’re trying to say that this is because of some rubbish you made up about Gen Z?
Well, I appreciate you showing the thread what you think, let’s put it that way. I don’t think I can say say anymore than I have, so have a good rest of your day.
I know there are tons of fans of aoe 3 on these forums, and a healthy population who play the game, but I have to say that in my own opinion it stands out as one of the absolute worst additions to the franchise, and completely changes the game into something that is the least recognizable as an age of empires game. Thing is, I can see the difference between that being my opinion on the matter and how other people feel. I’m not going to go out of my way to post a thread every week in the aoe 3 subforum to discuss how much I dislike it, and then list all the ways it could be improved to suit my tastes… I’ll just play other games.
That guy doesn’t even like AoE3DE. There are 3 people on this forum whose only contribution is to spread unhelpful negativity with ultra-critical remarks like a bunch of children.
There’s a way to critique games maturely, which seems lost on some. AoEIV isn’t my favorite but as a fan of AoE I want it to be the best game it can be because that is good for the rest of the franchise. People who use other AoEs as a cudgel to bash AoEIV are not representative of the larger community. I get the frustrations of the lack of communication, and map hacks that is ruining the experience for many but throwing hissy fits isn’t the way to go about things.
Please, feel free to bring any evidence that this forum is manipulated. Deleting your thread where you quoted Musk doesn’t count.
To be fair, I was very into AOE2 and even won some fairly competitive tournaments back when it was on the MSN Gaming Zone, but I have long moved on. I have tried going back to it many times over the years, including the definitive edition, but it just feels too aged for me at this point. It’s ok for people to hang onto old games, in fact, I saw the same thing with the SC1 vs SC2 crowd, but that doesn’t really mean that it is better in every way.
