I have worked on a little tool to educate myself about the game. It allows you to simulate combat between units by taking upgrades (and soon additional buffs) into account. After a couple of week polishing and refining I proud to present it to the rest of the world, as you might also find it useful. Check it out:
This is a pretty good tool. Should I report bugs here?
-Berserk is missing Odin’s Hamask (Maybe it’s difficult to implement?)
-Contarius is missing unupgraded (X)
-Some units have slightly incorrect stats (Camel Rider, Chariot Archer, War Elephant, etc.)
-The base bonuses given by various gods are missing (Hades, Ra, Loki, etc.). You could place the bonus of these gods on the units they affect along with the myth techs. So you can click on the god icon and its corresponding bonus is activated/deactivated.
Overall the tool works well, it needs a little more polish, but I congratulate you on this very interesting tool.
Yes bug reports are very welcome. Fortunately it turned out none of the things you mentioned are really bugs
Berserker Hamask, God Bonuses and stuff like this are all part of the road map. Check out the big questionmark on the right
Contarius comes automatically with “Medium” upgrades, so not having the red “X” there is intentionally
Same applies for Midgold Units. They also come with “Medium” upgrades straight away and get a 10% bonus on damage and hitpoints. I also double checked this ingame. The game just has no icon for those implicit upgrades. For the Contarius I have chosen the Icon for Greek Medium Cavalry, because those basic upgrades are mostly shared with Greeks.
It’s still good input, since I can see why this could cause confusion. I might add a little hint there somehow.
(Now I noticed the roadmap)
I see… I just checked the code and Contarius automatically upgrade to “Medium Cavalry” in the Classical Age, but are available in the Heroic Age. Migdol units automatically upgrade to “Medium Chariots/Camels/Elephants” in the Heroic Age, when available. So this is a great tool because it allows us to learn these things, but as you say, it would be nice to indicate these details in the tool somehow.
One idea might be that when a unit is automatically upgraded the unupgraded (X) and/or “Medium Cavalry” icon appears darkened and cannot be clicked on and if you hover over it a message appears saying “This unit is automatically upgraded in Heroic Age,” for example. For Camels and Elephants you could use the same generic “Medium Cavalry” icon because these units are also cavalry. And for Chariot Archers you could use the “Medium Ranged Soldiers” icon to keep some consistency.
I just released a couple of improvements. Most notably are the hover tooltips for upgrades. But I have also added notifications for some more transparency. I will expand on that in the future
