What the title says. Arambai are just too darn expensive, considering that they need to be massed to be effective. They are currently 75 wood, 60 gold. On release, they were 50 wood, 60 gold, but their cost was raised later. They were also much stronger back then, and while they got a slight cost decrease in a DE patch, that’s still not enough. They’re so inaccurate that you basically need to mass 20 or 30 of them to actually be able to use them as intended. I suggest decreasing the cost to 50 wood, 50 gold, slightly cheaper than what they were originally. They are much weaker now IMO, so they must be cheaper or they will remain mediocre.
On another note, I’m still campaigning for the Burmese to receive Elephant Archers. Even though they miss the last two archer armor upgrades, with the civ bonus, Howdah, and Parthian Tactics, they would actually have comparable armor to generic archers. Howdah could also grant them +2 range, giving them a total of 9 range, making them a strong anti-archer ranged unit. While the Burmese Stable units are decent and gain bonus against archers with Manipur Cavalry, on the pro level, they can be easily micro-ed down. Gaining a long-range archer unit that’s relatively tanky would really help the Burmese against archers.

Considering that you need 0 Upgrades on them (the most important will be probably husbandry, then bloodlines)
They are giving you actually quite good value for such a low investment. Easy addition to add whenever your opponent is mainly making melee units (knights and stuff).
It’s also one of Phosphorus most favored and featured units. So, they can’t be that bad.

They are very fairly priced especially given how wood is not a resource that has to pass through some investment (every 100f in contrast needs some ~20w investment so if a unit costs 100f in terms of villager time it’s actually looking like 100f 20w).
They also have good mobility and a very high pierce attack, especially given how you don’t need to buy the usual Bodkin/Fletching for them.
Overall, Castle units are always a bit stronger than normal units in terms of how many resources you need to invest per “unit of value” you get. Arambai are not an exception to this rule.
Also, it’s not true that you need 20-30 of them to be effective, if the enemy has 20-30 Xbow, sure, but in those early Castle Age fights where the opponent has like 4 Skirms or 2 Knights, 3 Arambai that are well-micro’s are very effective.

That would be totally broken. Had they not deal 100% stray damage, I could see a justification to reduce the cost.

Better just improve the Elite Arambai durability, in castle age they are fine, but the lack of good durability due to their low armor is what makes them not used, thing like giving to Elite 1/3 base armor would bring it to the same as HCA with Parthian Tactics and give Players reason to mass them.
Their price is fine as such but seems too much when compared to similar unique units like conqs or Mangudai. Its probably worth reducing gold cost to 50 or keep the cost same, reduce base damage by 1 but let them benefit from ranged upgrades.
