I can already see a case for Reservistas on the basis that it basically transform the insurgentes into some kind of “trash” musketeer. However, since Insurgentes are already a low HP unit, I would say that they aren’t really fit to stand in the battle line in such late age facing artillery and real skirmishers. If reservistas was an Age II card I can see it being meta, but in Age IV, I can’t hardly see how investing in so many trash musketeers is better than investing in more villagers and pumping gold generation for Soldados.
Insurgents are essentially harassment units at the point, and this helps them harass.
You can also just get Revolutionaries in Age IV and train them instead, if you want a food only unit, so I don’t see a reason to upgrade Insurgente past their regular veterancy.
Except Revolutionaries are super slow now (4.5) compared to Insurgentes, who have 5.77 speed with Machetes card from age 2.
The only downside is revolutionary only available in Town Center, but yeah Insurgente card rarely got put in deck unless it is going Yucatan Maya
I think with Yucatan they can get Guard and Imp (even going Yucatan into Mexico), and some native techs help Hand Infantry.
Panama with Zapotec and Maya for +20/20% should be kinda nice.
The card could maybe be moved to age 3, but probably no sooner.
In that case it’s not in the deck either since you get it from Yucatan which due ot no guard upgrade is the only way to make it a usable card - mega fast 70f musks are good but only fi you can actually get them to guard/imp with Maya.
The Maya “Chan Santa Cruz” [Home City Card] upgrades Yucateco Insurgentes to Guard, giving them +30% [hit points] and damage, and allows them to be upgraded to Imperial.
I’d rather send advanced arsenal if speed is a problem which would bump them up to 5 speed, giving Insurgente muskets kinda defeats the purpose of the speed advantage anyway since they don’t need to swarm the enemy any more. When I tried it, it kinda felt like they got weaker doing their job.
Without going for Maya revolt, here is the list of card/tech that buff Reservistas 15 ranged damage
- Veteran Upgrade (20%)
- Insurgente Combat (15%)
- Machetes (15%)
- Second Guarantee (15%) requires Plan of Iguala card
- Paper Cartridge (15%) requires Advanced Arsenal card
- Smokeless Powder (10%) requires Tlaxcala Alliance card
Totalling +90% make them deal 28.5 damage from range. Is it worth to send the Reservistas card? It depends on what you use Insurgente for. For me, if not going for Maya revolt, I use Insurgente to spend excess food, or to make my army blob looks big.
Instead of putting the Reservista card, I choose to put the Seven Laws card instead, so each time I train an Insurgente, it is basically a trade between 70 food to 10 exp point for shipment, and they still work decently for baiting enemy fire and tanking for my Soldado and Salteador.
insurgents are one of the most powerful units in the game. You just have to revolt to yucatan so u get the lazo attack (area damage and snare) and send reservistas and the other upgrades, then revolt to maya and send more upgrades, and u end up with a beast of a unit and super spamable.
