Arena of the Gods - Enemies get benefit of the blessings?

Issue:

I am not sure if this is a bug or if it is supposed to be intended behavior. But it certainly appears like some of the Blessings I choose end up benefiting the enemy players in addition to me. I am thinking specifically of Kastor’s Elite Guard and Gaia’s Lashing Roots, which seem to give the enemy players similar bonuses (an expanded number of starting troops and heroes that do area damage).

Trigger Event:

Play an Arena of the Gods scenario with those blessings on.

Repro Steps:

I have tried this with 3 specific scenarios. 19B, 17A, and 12B.
I have the Heroic versions of the two Blessings mentioned.

  1. Start the scenario with the two Blessings.
  2. Allow the scenario to run for about 30 seconds to allow all the units to spawn in.
  3. Resign and view the map to see enemy unit numbers and whether enemy heroes such as Priests have the bonus Area of Effect.

This happens every single map with every single blessing. For some reason the devs coded for P2 to have the blessing because of coop, but if you play solo P2 is the enemy, and only P2 has the blessings which just proves my claim. This bug literally makes the game mode pointless bcs blessings are useless unless you abuse the OP ones, and it is so infuriating to want to enjoy this gamemode but being unable to because of this

Still not patched. Some scenarios are completely unplayable because of it. When I have to face 3 enemies alone is already hard but giving them the same blessings makes it impossible. How the heck am I able to fight 3 enemies that start attacking in 5 minutes of the game without the blessing advantage? This game is abandoned… The devs simply don’t care about it anymore…

Hard or extreme difficulty?

I haven’t been able to reproduce on the missions indicated, following every step indicated in the original bug report

For example, I see in 12B some additionnal units are spawned for the ennemies (3 shade for hades, berserk for norse) but it’s to prevent too much cheesing from the player, seems ok to me - and they appear even if body guard blessing isn’t active

On 17A, same thing, some more starting units (with or whithout elite guard blessing) like one more scout for greek
No area damage for jason nor pharaoh from P3

On 19B, P2 get one camel and one more priest
P3 get nothing more
P4 get more monkey and some snakes
No priest for any player has area damage

Looking at the game files, indeed when playing in harder difficulty the game spawn some more early units but not as much as bodyguard (it’s like 1 camel or 1 priest for example).

@Feber these scenario are bound to be difficult, maybe lower the difficulty or play coop if it’s not at your level ? You could also train against AI
Btw I soloed every AotG mission in hard and I’m not even able to beat titan difficulty in standard skirmish so definitely doable :smiley:

Oh I see.
I’ve been playing in hard mode (silver one) and I’ve noticed some of my blessings are affecting them in a positive way too.
Are devs paying attention to this?

Can somebody please show howennemies are affected ? Like screenshot, videos ? There is nothing on this thread showing it ^^"

like here’s 17A extreme after 30s with both Lashing root and bodyguard enable
as you can see, greek heroe doesn’t have area damage and it has 4 scouts instead of 1 but not 10 military units like we do with bodyguard

@Eskiss, I can reproduce it for you. I am on 17A, on Extreme Difficulty, with Lashing Roots, the bodyguard, and the extra myth unit hp as blessings. Here is an image of the Greeks attacking me at about 4 minutes:


You can note Atalanta has area damage and the Greeks have a number of Atlantean units.

I also think I understand why you were unable to reproduce it. It only happened for me when I restarted the game. As in, I started the scenario, ran it for about 4 minutes of in-game time, and resigned. Then from the resignation screen, I hit “restart game”, ran it for about another 4 minutes of in-game time, and got the above screenshot. I have the replays from both games uploaded here.

When I first created this thread last November, I am pretty sure that that happened every time (that is, not just on restarts). But I cannot be absolutely confident in that.

I reproduced it with your steps, it seems indeed restarting bugs the blessings for player 2 - probably because it can be a human ally

Maybe it wasn’t on restart at launch (I’m surprised though, I played whole AotG at launch and I don’t remember having the issue) but they fixed that and now it’s only in this very niche case of restarting an arena mission from the mission itself instead of the lobby.

Could you please update your post/title accordingly for devs to better understand the issue ?

But there’s something more:
Today I tried to help a friend on 11 map on Hard difficulty and we were basically demolished.
This is weird because I’ve completed all the maps on Hard and that game with my friend felt like the AI were set on Extreme instead of Hard.
Don’t know what happened, but maybe something changed with the last update?

Has anyone noticed this?
