Since the unique unit of this civ is hard countered (even by english vils!) what is an ayyubid player supposed to do? Seeing virtually no options in fuedal to pressure english with this civ
Hi I’m conq on xbox and I also have noticed this. They have no good response for their MaA and longbow men in feudal.
Ayyubid has an advantage that other civs dont have, the proper counter to english is this:
First you need to make outpost to protect your resources (gold and wood line).
Second you need to go fast castle with with culture wing that is cheaper. Once you are castle, pick your infantry (archer and gulam) and make a mangonel without the need for siege workshop.
Wont the Longbow men outgun that?
Archer towers mean little to MaM. Ayyubids still struggle if fuedal mma civs makes MaM first thing in feudal and beelines to the ayyubids base.
Ayyubids harassing with the minor investment of 3-4 horsemen to delay/distract the mma civ is the best bet while ayyubids fast castle.
Still an overly difficult matchup for ayyubid if they are against english.
longbow men are not an issue for ayyubid if they can get the castle and are able to start producing mangos and gulams.
You can also go gamba and get some javelin
just go for early stables and horsemen to deal with em. If they respond with spears, then you can make some camel raiders and don’t even have to invest in archery range, as the camel raiders counter the spearmen, and mobile enough keep up with your horsemen to outmanuver the english, and once you have enough military units, you can use them to start counter raiding the english.
English biggest weakness is their lack of mobility due to infantry based army. Use it.
Build palisade walls in a manner that it prevents longbows from sniping say, vills on gold, without forcing them into Tower range.
If they bring Maa, you can pretty much ignore them as they will take to long burning throught he palisade wall before you reach castle age.
As Ayyubbids, you can do a extremely fast castle by for the cheaper age up to castle age.
once you hit castle age, you are free to spam ghulams that will wreck english pretty hard, ontop of that, you can immidietly build a manjaniq to deal with the longbow blob.
How do you take out Gulams as English? Crossbows?
Crossbows or Knights. Mostly crossbow. Longbow men in mass with micro can work in a pinch but is expensive in apm

So what you’re saying is Ayyubid has to take the 300 wood in feudal? Seems like a pretty hefty all-in. Camel riders aren’t cheap and will eat too much gold for a castle to occur during this rushy strategy
camel raiders aren’t too expensive, they have a rather low foodcost.
And you don’t need many of them to reach the mass needed to 1 shot spears.
One does always have the alternative to go for military wing that gives you free camel raiders, This has the added advantage allowing your cavalry, to build siege such as Rams to really put pressure on english as they can’t just hide behind towers, and its a great tool for splitting their melee away from their range. (they gotta deal with the ram).
I like focusing going for cavalry against the english as you force them to respond with spears, which as abbasid/ayubbids have really easy time dealing with, and it punishes the english even harder once you hit castle, and you get Ghulams that just demolishes them + their longbows.
While yes, camel raiders has added gold cost, when you put everything into account for the eco of a ayyubidd, they got a pretty solid econ, the advantage of not requiring villagers for age up makes up for the extra gold cost, golden ages also is a significant boon to your econ, and to top it all off you always have alternative to go for cheaper age-up if you find yourself really needing to hit that castle age or not.
Alternativly you also get considerable resource-gain from economy wing age up.
lmao ayubids are broken af right now, they will get nerfed
