Aztec Split Discussion

Yes, but it is what it is…

If they were going to do this, I’d almost just say give them the 3 options as age ups in each age where you pick a bonus from that city. That way it’s one civ with more options and civ bonuses chosen on age up, kinda like Hapsburgs from WoL.

Is it though? Age of Empires did split the Indians back in AoE2, so there is some level of precedent, though in this case the new civilizations are just so original, unlike anything that came before them!

Your other posts indicating the need to split the americas up into different cultures actually inspired this post! Just took some time to lay out how Mesoamerica should look and which groups felt like they had potential to branch out as their own civs.

The fact that the Aztecs and the Incans both use a proper home city and not a Council is pretty heavy evidence on its own that even the devs realize they’re not really that similar.

The translator is stupid too. You write in English “America”, but in Spanish it says “United States (estados unidos)”

@Jonasnee8581 By “also” I do not mean you, but rather the association of the term in general. Just to avoid misunderstandings.

Therefore, they should not act the same.

Aztecs and Incans civs could have a unique Age Up mechanic similar to African Alliances - in this way nearby peoples can be represented etc.

not really unique when you suggest every civ ageup like that my dude

Yes, but dividing civs in AoE 2 is easier to do… and the Indians in AoE 3 are quite a topic, seeing the mess that is the civ…

I like how some people are taking this unironically.

there is nothing ironic about proper representation for the Mexica

That’s why I say that you could make an Age Up mechanic similar to African Alliances where you could choose the Mexica peoples within the Aztecs civ - similarly make the same for the Incans civ.

thats not what unique means

Tell me what’s not special about it? It would definitely be something different from what is currently available.

I’m not saying it should be a copy-paste, just something with similar assumptions but defined anew.

this thread has almost inspired me to lobby for my make the knights of st john campaign into 3 fully fleshed out civs, to represent the pre morgan black (just modern malta sans big cannon) the campaign one (give morgan black a million hp and abilities, like the ever popular Joan of Arc in aoe4.), and the fully fleshed out “post morgan black” with a mix of new world units taken from aztecs or incas, stranded Turkish and spanish units, and tratior boneguard. Each version would also ofc have several unique revolts to the circle of ossus, in age1/2 since the events happen early on.

Finally, despite the game operating just fine as is, this world give us very loud mentally albeit quiet typers the representation of games of eu4 and total war our super balanced historical and rigid world views the in game representation we must have or my stomach will continue to be upset.

P.S. for extra…fun… every single unit will have different hats across the 3 civs to ensure players just love having to remember all the many many options from these just 3 civs. Cheers!

if you’re just rehashing an existing design, that isnt very unique. A unique ageup would be the ageup is free or extremely cheap, but requires a list of structures to be built before you can research it. ie. you have to build a market, a house, a community plaza before you can age, but ageing is 200f or something. THAT would actually be unique.

You can combine my suggestion with yours:

Age 2

(To Age Up to Age 2, collect the appropriate amount of a specific resource - you spend one third of the resources)

  1. Guamar Confederacy (Guamare) - 1200 FOOD
  2. Tlaxcala Confederacy (Nahua) - 900 COINS
  3. Teotitlan - 1200 WOOD

Age 3

(To Age Up to Age 3, fill the Community Plaza with max. gatherers)

  1. Xalisco Kingdom ############
  2. Colliman Kingdom (Colima)
  3. Yopitzinco Kingdom (Tlapanec)

Age 4

(To Age Up to Age 4, build three Nobles’ Huts)

  1. Mexico-Tenochtitlan
  2. Tetzcoco
  3. Tlacopan

Age 5

(To Age Up to Age 5, train 50 Skull Knight’s)

  1. Purépecha Empire (Tarascans)
  2. Tututepec Kingdom (Mixtec)
  3. Zapotec Empire (Zapotec)

Age Up Options would offer content such as resources, units (some completely new), buildings (eg. American Citadel), and completely new Ceremonies.

A similar Age Up mechanic can also be created for Incans civ.

Don’t forget to ask for every german state to be his own civ, our Lord forbit they are “unter”-represent, and for that matter, are even Indian civ necesary?, since they are so ########### exactly the same people with the same language, culture and goverment(s) in his absurdly vast territory with the exact same biome from north to south, we should ask them to be a Bri-ish revolution

Same for portugal and spain, indistinguishable one from another, just make one “Iberia civ” and thats it
Add more germans a.s.a.p

Inspired by op, I would like to propose one unique change to the game by changing its genre from RTS to RPG. Down with obsolete RTS design of age of empires series which is mainly ‘real time strategising’ , managing units and economy, enjoying the balanced interactions, and history is only represented as simplified RTS mechanics.

No sir! We can make it an RPG so every last detail of history is captured, every unit is unique, every building is unique. Every military soldier has a name and different clothing, they all have their own hopes and dreams and fears and you have to recruit them all, one by one. Lets make ageing up ultra realistic by making it take 20years for researching. That way, I can finally enjoy some historically accurate gameplay.
