I made a seperate post about some changes to the map voting system I would like to see. I hope that more people will respond to this thread as well.
One thing about the voting system I dislike is the following:
When some amount of people vote (long term) for a map A and half the amount votes for map B this should actually result in the Map A being played twice as often as map B, not indefinitly more often.
This could be implemented by storing votes for maps that dont get into the pool, and also storing excess votes for the wining maps.
So if in week 1 ap A gets 16% votes, and map B gets 8.1%, then Map A will be played.
The next time map B is in the poll the 8.1% gets added, if it gets 8.1 again, it results in 16.2 and will beat another 16% map. Th 16% for the other map will be stored. This ensures long term that maps who are votes twice as often are also just twice as often in the pool.
But what currently happens is that maps that get votes by 8% never get played, unless the devs decide to place it in the pool. It is nice that the devs add maps like Frigid Lake or Greenland or Enclosed in the pools sometimes, otherwise we would not see them. What isn’t nice is that The other map isn’t a water map like it used to be last year, but always MegaRandom atm.
I completely disagree with this. As long as we do not get a complete water overhaul, I refuse to see a reason why we should have a water map in the map pool.
The reason why a water map should be in the map pool is because water maps are a fundamental map type, and each fundamental type should be played in ranked, if the ranked should represent AoE2 overall, what it should.
AoE2 is an over 20 year old game and there shouldn’t be an complete overhaul of big parts of the game. Just make Aoe5 instead for different overall mechanics.
