The Japanese Onmyoji needs a serious nerf. Once a player reaches a critical mass of them, the army becomes practically invincible due to their high damage output combined with endless healing sustain. It ruins the late game because there is simply no viable counterplay against them.
They aren’t very strong on their own they need some front line.
However, it is a bit dumb for a unit to have both heal and so much damage.
Exactly that is the case here!
They should nerf either heal damage or both
I think as was the case with hetariori the issue is the splash damage. Aoe on auto attack on units that can be massed is always an issue. Even on single units like fuxi’s mythic age hero nicknamed John wick and after wards shennongs.
Currently the units cost prevents it from being an issue early on but as the game reaches past certain point they are sure to be made and do obliterate all other comps.
Would proposed to first remove the aoe on attack or reduce its área or less damage to secondary targets and see if it still overperforms.
Hetairoi was problematic because of the aoe+heal (2x self heal)+reasonably high HP+speed.
This isn’t really the case here. But those guys do make other combos extremely powerful. On their own not so much.
This units are range and heal. So they have advantages over hetairoi and disadvantages in other aspects like speed. since they can dismante units before they reach them. They can garrison unlike calv and they can focus fire to maximize aoe.
Its not a 1:1 scenario ofc but it highlights the troubles aoe brings.
I would venture to say all units that have an aoe attack have had balance issues in the game:
Cyclops (early on ares Rush) hetairoi, John fuxi and shennongs mythic age heroes and now this ones.
They are also slow and fragile and you can kite them with most ranged units. Id say they are stronger when mixed with other units then on their own massed.
Not really the case thou, specially if hachiman is involve. By that time theres also ballistics. And if you Just move away and try to ignore them then they will simply siege down whats ahead of them. If you picture them doing the same playstyle as hetairoi sure but then you are using the unit poorly.
You can outrange with some units but they arent archers so theres no counter unit that takes them down fast and they will clear backlines very fast.
Again this unit like any other is not invincible by any means it Just snowball Hard once the mass gets going.
All units are stronger when mixed in a comp. Hetariori or this one arent the exception.
