Balr and Tyr need additional tech

Hey, some Norse gods are very unloved and you can see that Baldr and Tyr come with only 2 unique techs, when all other minor gods have 3-4 techs (except Hel but Hel has her own thing going). I think it is time to come up with additional techs to them.

So I will start with couple ideas:

  • Baldr: Supposedly god of siege weapons, but has no bonus for Ballista. Add a tech that makes ballistas stronger. Maybe something that gives Ballistas +2 range and more damage against buildings. Something Jarl related is also possible.
  • Tyr: Tyr could have a tech that gives him free Fenris Wolf Brood from temple every now and then, or as god of protection he could have a tech that increases crush armor of buildings by +30%. Another option is some Throwing Axeman related tech since those don’t exist in Mythic Age yet. For example +20% pierce armor to Throwing Axemen to survive counter-archers slightly better.

I think the more logical and fitting thing for Baldr would be some economic bonus.
I like the idea of giving him faster villager (including Dwarfs) train time. This way Ragnarok would be less of a gamble.

For Tyr maybe free Fimbulwinter Wolves defending your TCs instead of Fenris Wolf Brood?

Baldr is god of Cavalry and Siege. Considering we lack both Jarl and Ballista techs in age 4 (Freyr generic techs excluded), they would fit him better. I am not against dwarf training time since if I remember right, Baldr was the god who rebuilt the society from scratch after Ragnarok.

Regarding Tyr, I don’t mind a tech that protects your base. When I played AoE2, I always liked the Malian tech that make town centers stronger. The general consensus does seem to be that Wolf Brood are the most useless age 4 myth unit, so maybe there could be a tech related to them.

I really like someone agrees that these two gods need two additional techs especially as mythic age gods.

I also agree that Baldr could use an eco bonus but I also like the idea of buffing Jarl.
I also would personally like that he gets an upgrade for fire giants aswell personally.

(I would personally like that Hel gives the visually all giants their upgrades with her bonus)

For Tyr why not a bonus to Godi? or heroes in general? And maybe a wall bonus?
A wall bonus/buff cause: Norse have the weakest walls and didn’t Tyr caged Fenrir? So walls could symbolise a “strong cage”. or maybe let ballistas can be build on walls or buff ballistas in a unique way like give them frozen ammunition which creates a slowing area on impact?

I think the reason why the devs haven’t included a new tech for Baldr and Tyr is due to the Norse’s good economy and the great power of Fimbulwinter and Ragnarok. Now that Fimbulwinter has been nerfed, perhaps new techs can be added, and these are my ideas:

-Since he is a god of reincarnation, in my mod “Major Goddess Frigg” I included a new tech for Baldr: “Call of Folkvangr: Berserks produce favor if they fall in battle, and grants them a 10% chance to rise again as Heroes of Ragnarok.” The idea is to improve the infantry a bit with Baldr, to be able to use the Heroes of Ragnarok more, and to make the tech somewhat similar to “Call of Valhalla” (In Norse mythology, half of those that die in combat go to the Folkvangr, whilst the other half go to the Valhalla).

-Tyr may have a new tech that affects the Fenris Wolf Brood (e.g. “Garmr Brood”) (Inspired by the Garmr wolf and also a reference to Starcraft), which can boost the Fenris’ stats, or make Temples train 2 Fenris for the price of 1, or allow Hill Forts to spawn Fenris, etc. because these wolves must be used in large numbers to be effective, and they are not very powerful mythic units.

I really wish there was a technology that would make the godi effective against long-range archers and not just mythical units.
