Battle Royal Game Mode Removed?

So they abandoned this game mode as well?

I couldn’t find it in Quick Play anymore. Is it still playable?

When was it removed? That is not very nice.

Yes, I think so… but it takes a long time to find a game… it was the boom in 2020, but then the regional DLCs started coming out and it was abandoned…

Yes, but only in lobbies.

Last year some time before the release of Return of Rome iirc.

To be fair, that mode was dead very quick. It was introduced with the 2020 anniversary update in November and the last time I could find a game was in March 2021.

Why do they take decisions in such hurry? Why couldn’t they have just left the option instead of removing it? What harm was it doing to the game?

Hurry? The queue was in the game for two, almost three years before it was removed.
Literally no one played QM Battle Royale anymore after the first months when it was introduced. I once made the effort to sit in the queue for 20 minutes.

Wish AOE2 allowed more than 8 players. Otherwise this mode would’ve survived.

That doesn’t justify removal of a feature from a product. Not ethical practice to silently remove it without even mentioning in patch notes.

If it’s not popular today, it might get popular tomorrow. How do you justify to those players who couldn’t even enjoy it once?

It’s not removed, you can create a Battle Royale lobby and play normally.

They just removed the auto queue for it. (looks like because of too low player population)

It wasn’t silently removed.

General

  • Due to long queues times and low activity making it difficult to find matches, Empire Wars and Battle Royale game modes have been removed from the Quick Play Menu on PC, and Empire Wars has been removed from the Quick Play Menu on Xbox.

Also, as Jordan said, the BR mode is still available to play, just not as an Auto Queue:

Speaking of, is it possible to initiate the “Corruption” of Battle Royale mode in a custom scenario? Would be a cool feature for a scenario with supernatural theme.

Yes but you need to use a custom data with this terrain enabled

Already have the terrain itself, which I copy from a template scenario. But the terrain alone won’t expand and destroy units, it only triggers dramatic music. I was referring to the Corruption that will consume the map from the outside tiles to the centre. Any way to do that?

The generally hostile (non-animal) Gaia units would be useful, too.
